This is just a teaser for now, but mark your calendars for June 20-22, 2008.
Incorporating the many fine suggestions from last year’s attendees, the format is basically the same…
BUT… a small group of dedicated prior attendees has promised to accompany me on a day trip to the island the previous weekend to hide temporary caches; It is conceivable the we will have close to a HUNDRED temps hidden for this event; Some easy, some hard, you can log them all…
As aways, kayaks are welcome, canoes are not.
11/15/2007 at 7:10 pm #1881171Seriously — there’s been 6 of these things??
Now that my surgery is behind me, and the stomach muscles have firmed up again, I’d really like to attend!
Plus, you’ll all be happy to know — I cannot drink as much as I used to either!! 😆

Sorry!
11/15/2007 at 11:08 pm #1881173All right! Just going form the top of my head…I think we are open that weekend. I’ll mark this event in big red letters on the calendar. We can’t afford to miss another one of these spectatular events. THANKS!!!
11/16/2007 at 4:20 am #1881174Yep, I will Definetely be there again. Might try to talk my mom into coming along as well. We’ll Have to see… I will also definetely be on the daytrip to help setup. Count me in for both.
Last year was this first one of these events that I had attended, and it was an absolute blast, I wouldn’t Miss this one for the world!!!!!

11/25/2007 at 3:41 am #1881175Not sure if I can make it up on a prior wekend, but maybe a day ar so in advance. Last year’s event was a blast. Of course, there are always more beers to taste! 100 temps? That number hurts my brain. Seriously, if the lake gets any lower, you will be able to walk across — they had a very dramatic aerial photo in last Sunday’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinal.
12/01/2007 at 3:01 am #1881176Little man was remarking that he wants to go to Rock Island in 2008, so count us in. I don’t know if we can make it the weekend before as of yet, but we may be able to make it a week from the WI west coast.

12/03/2007 at 2:38 am #1881178Ah yes, 100 temp caches will be an ideal way to promote the sanctity of Rock Island.
Might I suggest you also switch to non-alcoholic beer and ban Wisconsin cheese!
12/14/2007 at 7:18 pm #1881179Although we did not participate in the geocaching, we were there camping at the same time as the event. While talking to the park Naturalist, Paul, he nothing but good things to say about geocachers. He mentioned in one of his talks how he encouraged people to go off trail and explore the entire island. He even said he was grateful that geocachers had uncovered a 100 year old oven used by coopers that had long been lost in the deep woods. Hope you guys have fun.

😆 As long as you are not exploring off the trails with some cachers….they take the long way round from the highest point to get back to camp. Something about not wanting to go down the way we came up. (although gravity would have worked with us, not against us). In any case, it was all worth it though, the company was fantastic and those discoveries buried deep in the woods under layers of forest floor, make it all worth it!!
03/16/2008 at 2:26 pm #1881181This event is now officially “live.”

Just watch out for the poison ivy which is rather abundant on some parts of the island….

Quote:Maybe we could put them on a 528ft grid in the large field by the boathouse, we could use Little flags like diggers hot line uses? 😯
reference05/14/2008 at 12:51 am #1881184Thinking about attending but wondering: how many actually kayak to the island? Or is this mainly a karfi-riders event?
