I’m kinda new to the LCG, I’ve tinkered a little.  And I don’t know that I’ll take it to  the level of some of the devoted.  But in trying to understand the rules, I’ve got a few questions.

I see that only the first person that finds a cache or doesn’t find the cache really gets credit for it.  Which makes sense.  But what if person A finds it on Monday but doesn’t log the find till Thursday.  But on Wednesday person B goes out looks for and finds the Lonely Cache.  I’m not trying to be difficult, just wondering how this works.  I’m sure this situation has occurred before.

That is the most commonly asked question of the LCG. ANYONE can FIND a Lonely Cache and receive points during the period it is listed. Only the 1st person would receive Bonus points, such as replacing the container with the COs permission or reporting TBs missing, greater than 1 or 2 years since found, etc.

Only 1 person or team can receive points for a Cache Rescue.

So, anyone finding that “lonely” can file a report and get the points! You can also get points if you DNF it too, but not if it is Disabled or Archived before you found it (of course!).

Thanks for asking that question once again, so we can clarify it. I’m sure it will be asked again on Saturday.

    Another thought…

Back in the early days of the game, we would use the scoreboard to verify which caches were actually present, so we wouldn’t waste time and gas ($4/gallon!) by chasing a lonely DNF. You can plan a pretty nice LCG circuit in the 2nd month of the listing period by using scoreboard finds as your guide!

And if there’s snow, there may be tracks to follow!

    additionally,

only one person can get points for a revisit unless additional DNFs are logged following the revisit. (revisit is finding and verifying a cache present or missing after you had already found it previously).

All submissions are reviewed by the LCG Admins for completeness and correctness. (sometimes people don’t realize the bonus points).

Bonus points do not apply for revisits (sometimes this rule gets missed).

going back to one of Jim’s posts to clarify.  Only one team can actually submit the cache rescue on the cache rescue page but if you and another team rescue together, both qualify for the rescue points in LCG.  Just be certain that you mention the teams present in your LCG submission and both log on the Cache page.  I will hold off on verifying the cache rescue until all teams present have submitted their LCG report.  Once a cache rescue is verified, it is too late to submit LCG points as that listing will drop from the list.

I usually take pictures of the logs of the lonely caches I visit.  I haven’t had to get all feisty (yet  😉 but we’ll see) but I figure if there’s ever any doubt about who earned double points I can  show my log pic.
