I’m collecting stories for the next WGA newsletter. I need your stories about your experiences with LEO’s (Law Enforcement Officers) while out geocaching. I’ve heard a lot of them over the years and many are worth a good laugh. I’d like to put together a bunch of short stories together. If you could please either post them here or send them to me in a PM I’d appreciate it.

Last year we had the pleasure of pursuing with WisJanine one of Goldiedigger’s very fun multicaches that required us to drive from waypoint to waypoint since the stages were often miles apart, road rally style. Most of the waypoints had plastic dolphin containers with the next set of coordinates.
At one stop on a rural road alongside a field, we had a friendly visit from a nice sheriff who offered his help when he saw us pulled over on the side of the road. [Historical note: WisJanine’s first geocaching encounter with an officer, our 8th or 9th – welcome to the club!] We told him we were on a scavenger hunt looking for a plastic dolphin and he said “OK good, you found it,” and off he went. 🙂

I know that but I wouldn’t feel comfortable sharing these stories without people’s permission to put them in the newsletter that goes out to many people. I was hoping to get a fresh account for that purpose.

So last night sitting at home when a new publishing notice pops up on my phone. I thought what better way to end the day with a FTF. Headed out about 9:30pm. Got to the park. Didn’t see any posted hours anywhere, so I parked and started the hunt. After searching for about 15 minuets I got the FTF, but that’s when all the fun started. As I walk back to the car I noticed a car drive by, pull a U-turn, and than pull into the park. As I got to my car door boom spot lights all over me, blinding my eyes. Getting yelled at to put the object in my hand (GPSr) on the ground. After a little bit of being a nervous wreck I finally got to explained why I was there. After talking to the officer for 30 minutes everything was all good.
You have to love everything caching has to offer.

Here’s a good story from me.
Not long after my bomb scare fiasco, I went night caching and was looking for the final reflectors when a cop car pulled up to the parking lot.
I walked up to the officer, who still was in the car, and told him I was geocaching.
He said “Did you find it?”
I said no.
He pointed the spotlight in the general direction of the cache and said “It’s over there somewhere.”
I thanked him and he drove away and I found the cache in the area he shined the spotlight on.

Peaches107 also found a safe in the woods while geocaching. He posted that somewhere here on the forum. I’ll try and see if I can find it later. It was several years ago.
