Thank you for the nominations! With only participating in this sport for a relatively short amount of time, I am honored that some believe I would make a good representative for the organization and it’s members.
Most of you probably know very little about me, so here’s a brief breakdown. I am Russ and my wife’s name is Amanda; together, we are Awhip80. We lead a busy family life, with five children ranging from 5 to 20 years of age. 4 of which we are carting around nearly everyday to numerous activities. I have lived in the Fox Valley for 18+ years and enjoy what the area has to offer for lifestyle.
Geocaching was first introduced to us through a coworker of Amanda’s in the summer of 2015. We were asked if we would like to go find some geocaches at Plamann Park. Hiking through the park, sharing conversation and laughs, and seeing nature and wildlife up close were a few of the things that got us hooked on the sport from the very beginning.
We are not in the sport for the numbers, but for the experiences it brings. Our family are all lovers of the great outdoors and it’s offerings. Geocaching gives us an opportunity to enjoy family fun together AND provides fun adult time when we just need to get away for a little while. It has taken us to wonderful places that we never would have been to otherwise. The hunt has also given us courage to do things that we never would have done also (right Amanda??).
I look forward to the possibility of serving the WGA and its membership. I believe there is a need for the sport to be more attractive to younger generations and will do what I can to promote and grow the sport to be enjoyed for many generations to come.
