    Mr. XXXX XXXXX

I’m contacting you to see if I could get permission to place an Earth-cache at XXXXXXX.

An Earthcache is much like a geocache which you may have heard of. In geocaching a small container is hidden then the coordinates are listed on a web page for others to find using a handheld GPS receiver (which are accurate to about 20 feet). Once the container is found a small log book is signed as proof of the visit and the container is replaced. Unlike a geocache, an Earthcache has no container and nothing is left at the site. The visit is strictly educational in nature. Earthcaches are simply locations which teach about geology and each listing must be approved by the Geological Society of America and other agencies prior to getting published.

I would like to create an Earthcache page with coordinates near XXXXXXXX. People who visit geocaching.com would record the coordinates from the website, visit the park and answer some questions about the site as well as take a photo as proof of their visit. Once they send me answers to questions about the site and the photo, they could log the Earthcache as having “been found” on geocaching.com.

Here is an example of an Earthcache I set up: LINK TO EARTHCACHE

Please let me know if I could feature this park as an Earthcache as it would make a fine addition to the Earthcaches I currently list in Wisconsin which include FEATURE TYPE, FEATURE TYPE, FEATURE TYPE, FEATURE TYPE and even FEATURE TYPE. If I can answer any questions please let me know. You can learn more about Geocaches and Earthcaches at the following two links:

    Thank you for your consideration.

I got tired of writing up a request every time I placed a new EC so I decided to post it on the boards this time so I’d have it handy and also so that others could modify it for their own use.

    *bump*
I may or may not be using this permission template today….. 😉
(I like it on the topish of the page so it’s easier to find)

So….what can we be looking forward to?

I had coordinates and information for a fun one in Devil’s Lake State Park, but hadn’t heard anything back from the park manager. So I go to look for the info to write again and discover…..Trekkin’ cleared those coords out of the GPSr! Ack! I don’t know where my written info went!

It can wait. It’s not all the winter friendly of a hike, anyway. Like probably at least a 4 terrain.

Thanks….looking at it I see I never got around to making the official “EarthCache” vs. Earthcache change.

Well I have a partner in crime on this one so I’m leaving out the details for the moment but the EC is about 35 minutes West of Oshkosh. It is currently on the desk of the Village President and hopefully from there it will go to the Village Board meeting for final approval…I’m hoping to know more after the 16th.
