I’ve been reading this tread and it turned from what caches do you seek to P&G bashing. I know I’m a newbie but I’ve going to defend them.

I’ve been doing this about 2 weeks. I choice these to start with. Like most people I’ve never had a GPS before starting this hobby and don’t know anyone who does this hobby. I’m still learn what it can and can’t do. I’m no way ready to wander off in the woods when I don’t even know what I’m reading of even looking for.

Many factors does into going after P&G’s. I only get like an hour after work to Geocache. Limited time means quick finds. Also it fricking cold out there. I think today was the highest temp in 2 weeks. Made it up to 9. Many people have physical  limitations. To walk trails this time of year is not smart. Many trails around here are snowmobile in winter. You won’t find me on them.

Now this last one is the most important I think. I do them for a confidence builder. I think if I would have quit fairly soon if I didn’t make some finds right away. A few DNF would discourage a lot of people. I’m sure many seasoned vets go for P&G’s to wart off dry spells or a quick “fix”. Its a confidence boost for vets also.

I know if I gave it some more thought I would come up with other reasons to like P&G’s.

LugNut while at times it may seem like there is a lot of P&G bashing but I think they have a spot in caching the same as Puzzles and Multis, etc.

Also, I’ve found out that cachers are a lot like people. Eeek! We all have our opinions on our likes…some people hate Rap or Dance music but take them to the club and there you’ll find Mr/Ms Heavy Metal shaking their groove thang to those Top 20 pop hits.

The best thing to remember is with caching, like life, there are seasons. I’ve gone out on caching runs where we  did nothing below a 4 D and High Terrains other times I’m grabbing P&Gs. There’s so much variety to choose from. I like all of caching but regardless of what they are classified, my favorites are always the ones that are unique, either in location or in creation.

I still remember that when we started, my wife would never let us even try a 3Difficulty because that was “above us”.

We’re in the group that likes the if it hadn’t been for a geo-cache, we would have never seen this place, on trips across the country we seek out caches by favorite points mostly, or oldest caches, seldom do caches that are in a CO’s yard, just doesn’t feel right, love the long hikes, especially J & L’s Room to Roam Series, have Team Northwoods caches on our radar for this spring, do some P & G’s just to satisfy our addiction. Currently working on the excellent State Park Series, and making a note of which ones are worth a re-visit, based on the quality of the hides.

As far as hiding, we like creating fun hides, with titles that have you guessing what your gonna find, other than a few where you know what your looking for ——–>! When we started hiding it was pill bottles, etc. but those are gradually getting archived, and we’re sticking to bike trails in the area.

    Thanks for an interesting topic!
