I have not cached at all in the SW corner of the state, maybe 15 total in Dane county is it. I only have one in Gurney Mills IL and nothing in IOWA, MN,or Indiana, and nothing in lower Michigan so no worries on my end.

Is Beverly too much to ask for? ( The old one in IL ) Have not looked at a map but if it can be done great.

Keep me posted. I am 90% sure I can go, nothing on the calender – just have to convince the wife :). Like I said I am also volunteering to drive – take your pick 40mpg vs 20mpg The trade off is room πŸ™‚

We can always add caches to the trip, with the agreement of those on board. Beverly is a possibility, since it would be on the way back. I know where it is, as I have found it and I grew up in the area. We of course would first want to stop and sign the log(s) for the challenge(s) that we just completed. πŸ™‚

I have just made the 2 route files that I made on GC public. I think that you may be able to find them under my profile or by searching. I have marked them public, but they do not appear when I search. Maybe that is because they are mine. Try searching for “Seven, Heaven”.

I add “Seven, Heaven, Cadogan” as keywords. I can now bring it up with the search.

    Give it another try.

I had to have some keywords. First time that I have made a route public.

We do not have to go all the way to Elkhart. Just some rough planning at this point. Was thinking that if we were close, go for it. There may be a better starting point up in Madison. We need a place that people can leave their cars.

Are you going to be able to drive it all? I can split duties with you so that you can rest. On the 4th of July, I stay up all night and cache until morning in Milwaukee. Last year I was up for 28 hours.

Yea – I was more or less volunteering my Vehicles πŸ™‚ The little car is a stick – so if no one else can drive a stick then we can take the SUV, but yea I would want some help, taking turns.

    @ 1000 miles
    SUV = 18mpg @ 3.80 = 211 / 4 Hopefully 52 Bucks a person
    Go Kart = 35mpg @ 3.80 = 108 /4 Hopefully = 27 bucks a person

The SUV Fits 5 comfortably so if we could get 5 that would help out. Would bring that down to 42.

Your not thinking hotel right? Just a big long round tripper

I can drive a stick with no problem. My first car was a VW Type 10. What is the the tanks size on the “go kart”? I can plug that in to the program and est. fuel stop locations. Figuring 12 gallons and 40 MPG, staring with a full tank, the first stop would be around Mount Pleasant, IA. Second fuel stop should be around Dyer, IN. That is figuring fuel stops at 1.4 tank full. Ken and I saw gas cheaper in IA and MO on our trip last w/e. It is 3.59 in Madison right now. That should help.

Searched and Iowa is 3.37 to 3.41, Dyer is as low as 3.67. Taking Elkhart out and starting in Madison, Topo USA has the trip at 877 miles (Madison to Madison)

About 20 hours from the time we leave Madison until we get to MI. If we leave before midnight and make our WI finds just after 00:01 and before we enter IA, then our 24 hour window to get all 14 caches improves.

Hotel? We don’t need no stinking hotel! πŸ˜†

I travel on dried fruit, Clif Bars and COFFEE! I figured that we should throw a large cooler in the trunk for food and drinks.

I like this more and more – yea I am on a budget so no hotel is a huge plus and I am hoping we can squeeze into the Go Kart – 2011 Ford Fiesta

(http://www.edmunds.com/ford/fiesta/2011/) ( I cant assess any image hosting sites from work so the link will have to do )

with yes a 12 gallon tank. I usually average around 35 hwy. Coffee and more Coffee will be our friend.

Who else do we have? I pitched it too WI Hibiscus and she is contemplating.

I am still planning on joining you. Hope there is room. I can also help with the driving. Will there be a place to leave cars at the start?? Sounds like fun.

Lisa McGrath is the only one that has indicated that she might be able to join us. She needs to check graduations, etc. first. Get WI Hibiscus on board and we are set. SmashingGround was going to join us, but needs to be in OK that w/e.

It sounds like with NeonRide93, GeoBill and WI Hibiscus, we will have a full car. If Lisa McGrath (lmcgisme) joins, we will need to determine if there is room. Hard one to figure before departure time. πŸ™

I am tweaking the route to squeeze decrease drive time. Down to around 19 hours, w/o stops. I need to then update the posted routes on GC. I will then start making a more finite list of target caches. Hope to have the revised route(s) done by tomorrow. A lot of dragging the route around to agree with Topo USA.

I will have a TomTom loaded with the caches. I can create an route to all of the caches for it using GSAK. With that we can set the target time to arrive in MI and then track if we are on schedule.

I would say that we can leave vehicles at the airport long term economy parking. $6,00 per day. Payment is by credit card only at this lot. It gives us easy access to the interstate to LaCrosse. Looks like a departure time of around 9:30 to get us up in LaCrosse around midnight.

WI Hibiscus has only said she was interested, and that was in passing. Not sure how serious her interests was.

    First Come First Serve for

    WI Hibiscus and lmcgisme

But if they both want to come we could take the SUV – would only be 10 bucks a person more and probably more room.

There has to be a park and ride or something that we can leave the cars in for free?

I am not familiar with Madison so you can pick one.
