Anything can happen. It’s always a good idea to be prepared. Also look at other caches on the route as a backup if you run across DNF’s. I’ve had to do this when I would get specific caches on a route to set up a milestone. I had a few DNF’s which forced me to take a slight detour on the way to the milestone cache.

This is true. That is why I have more than the required two caches/per state. Keeping the D/T to not more than 2.0 also helps. I have run a complete PQ for the route(s), but then selected the targets from that. Actually “drove” the route using the map view feature on GC. Good way to see where the cache is in relation to roads/exits.

I will also have my smartphone along with so that I can use c:geo to access the latest logs, etc. I may even set up FTF alerts for spots along the route. Who knows, we may get lucky and grab on also. [:D]

OK. I have gotten through the other three states and here are the caches that I think we should target. 411, in Michigan is where I think we can do a group picture. I may try to see if the CO would meet us there also. The extra caches that have been also discussed are The Beverly, Indiana’s First and I would like to grab a cache or two on the campus of my fav FB team – Notre Dame. I have followed them for over 40 years. Of course, we need to stop in Chicago and grab the challenge cache(s). ๐Ÿ˜€

Now that I have all of the possible targets, please let me know if you see any issues with any of them. I need to put them in proper order for the trip and get them ready to load in my TomTom. I will also create a public bookmark list so that people can create a PQ. I will also have PQ(s) create from the two routes.

Found that I mis-typed the GC for “All In!” It should be GC1J463.

Well, in three weeks we will be starting off on this road trip. While we already have a car full, there is still the opportunity for someone to put together another car. Come join Neonride93, GeoBill, WI.Hibicus and I for a 24 hour geocaching adventure. The following is a list of some of the goals that are looking to complete on this wild day together:

One Busy Day: The Illinois Icon Challenge
    The Illinois Road Trip Challenge
    Seven is Heaven: Puzzle/Mystery Challenge
Seven is Heaven: A Micro Sized “Challenge”
The Insane Cacher Challenge: One Busier Day!
    Seven is Heaven: Virtually Challenged
Seven is Heaven: IL Road Trip Challenge
Seven is Heaven: An Earthcache Challenge
Seven is Heaven: Run for the Border Challenge
    Indiana’s First
BIG Orange Travel Bug Convention Center

Many of the challenge caches we have already qualified for prior to this trip, while the others we will during the trip. The last two are caches that either are very old or ones that many have known for one reason or another.

    Less then 2 weeks left!

Hope everyone is all ready for this I am excited.

Sherry – – send me a private message with your address or Cooridates. I will pick you up at 8pm on Friday the 24th.

Bill – – same for you – We should be in your neck of the woods about 9

Wayne – everything planned? Do we have final Pocket Queries? Anything you need us to do? Send out the final PQ’s and we will load up!

Let me know which park and ride your comfortable leaving your car at and we will be there about 10.

I will have a cooler with Ice and Water and a box of granola bars – that will be my little contribution ๐Ÿ™‚ Everyone else can bring what ever they want the cooler is pretty big and fits in the trunk. Might want to bring a pillow or something for little cat naps ๐Ÿ™‚ I figure fast food, granola bars, and gas station stops to keep us going and Wayne had mentioned he would like a good sit down restaurant at the end to unwind – I like this idea.

I am going on a big cache run tommarow to hopefully get my 7 EC and I qualify for most of the challenges!

Shoot me or Wayne an Email with any last minute items!

    Countdown is on!

I will shoot out the final PQ(s) next week to Andy and Sherry. Bill, if you can send me your email addr by PM, I will send the PQ(s) to you also.

I also will have a couple of coolers (large & medium) that we can throw in the trunk, if we decide we need more. I will also have my large green TB hotel and all of it’s contents. I will be making up a checklists for the requirements of the different challenges. I am thinking that it will be a easier way to keep track of which ones we qualify for and the caches that we did to qualify. I am a clipboard freak. ๐Ÿ˜†

Make sure to also bring cameras to document this trip. Will be great to see lots of them posted on FB. Andy and I talked about the fuel and I said that I would help keep track of it and the receipts. He and I figured that it would be $25 – $30 per person, so if everyone were to give me $30 at the start, I will pay for it out of that and then return the unused funds back to all at the end. If we run short, then we push the car. ๐Ÿ˜†

Other than what Andy wrote, I can not think of anything else. I have had a watch on all of the target caches and they all seem to be active and people are finding them. There was one down in MO, but I think that it was due to high water. I also activated the publish alerts so that I can start to see how active some of the areas are.

The park and ride lot in the American Family office park still works for me. I probably will be there shortly after 9:30 so that we can hit the road as soon as you folks arrive. Andy, I was thinking that I could drive the first leg and let you get some rest.

I know that Andy drinks coffee. Sherry and Bill, are you coffee drinkers? I will buy the first cup and I also may pack a thermos of some Gevalia gourmet coffee that I have. Anyone is welcome to it, but I must warn you that I prepare it with cream and sugar.

Just like Andy, I am pumped for this trip!!

Even though I’m not going, I’m actively following this. Hope you guys have fun.

May I suggest someone bring a muli-tap cigarette lighter outlet such as this one so multiple people in the vehicle can keep their phones charged?

I have one. Very useful for keeping my Nuvi plugged in as well as charging my phone.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have one I will grab, but I do have 2 12v plugs plus a USB port that can charge in the car. I have a micro and mini USB cord for that.

I have a splitter that I will be bringing. I can then run the TomTom GPS and 2 USB devices from that one. Would hate to miss a new cache published and a chance for a FTF on the road. 8)

Little tip. When you stop for

    GC18YQ7 Midnight at the Oasis,

grab Hidden Meadow, and I-Passed a cache-Lincoln Oasis.

You can grab all 3 caches at that oasis in about 15 minutes or less. The oasis bridge gives you access to both sides of the interstate. It was those 3 that we targeted on our 6 state run for Rich’s challenge cache.

    Have fun!

Another thought. Hope for clear skies, as the 24th is a full moon. Will help with lighting things up!

Thanks for the tip. I did not even think about the fact that this is an oasis. I do not see Hidden Meadow in PQ as the NM attribute is set. I have added both of these to our target list.
