For those who don’t know, Galyans has been bought out by Dick’s. I am quite unhappy about this, as Galyans has always had the biggest & best selection of outdoor gear of any store I have ever been in.
The good news is that the buyout has resulted in a massive clearance sale of much of Galyans merchandise. If you are in the market for any gear, it is a great opportunity to pick up some great deals.
11/07/2004 at 1:34 am #1737577I’ll use this opportunity to ask if anyone knows a place in SE Wisconsin that has hiker’s vests? Looking for one to hold GPS, compass, camera, binoculars, cell phone, trading stuff and what not.

It must have had 15 different pockets on it. I found it near the ammo boxes. Good luck on your hunt.

I think the best candidates so far are “travel” or “photo” vests. The leader right now for me is a photo vest on EBay. Take a look there.
11/27/2004 at 12:05 am #1737580I don’t know if this will help, but I bought a plain white fishing vest at Dick’s Sporting Goods that has several pockets…the bottom pockets large enough to put my GPS, A Travelbug, a few small trade items in one, then a flashlight, compass, digital camera, small binocs, and a swiss army knife in the other. I don’t remember what I paid for it, but I’m sure it was under $30.00. It isn’t too bulky, which allows for me to bushwack or climb without too much trouble. A fishing vest also makes a nice coverup story while geocaching near lakes or streams.

11/30/2004 at 9:09 pm #1737581How do you get there?
12/01/2004 at 12:01 am #1737582Big Yonson, If you’re looking for Dick’s it’s in Racine across Hwy 31 from Regency Mall (you probably know that already). If you’re looking for Sherper’s, it’s in Hales Corners near the intersection of Hwy 100 (108th st) and Janesville Rd. I was at Sherper’s for the first time yesterday, and was quite impressed. It’s just north of Whitnall Park, which has several nice caches hidden it it. I don’t know where Gaylan’s is/was.
