It’s been so much fun to read everyone’s responses to the questions.  We want to make sure that everyone has a good idea of who our candidates are – so another question for our nominees!

What skill set will you bring to the BOD that will help you be an assest to the board?

My initial reaction to this is my perseverance.  When I am trying to achieve a goal/finish a task, I absolutely stick to the task.  At one point in my job, I took on a position temporarily, because it had to be done and no one else would do it.  Every time I met my boss in the hallway, I asked if he had hired my replacement yet.  He told me I was like a chihuahua…latching on until I got the answer I wanted!  In the end, they brought someone to the position who had skills that complimented mine, and she and I worked together to transition the team over from me to her, and were highly successful.  She and I are friends today, based on the teamwork and trust we built.  In my current job, I still am the one that people come to when they need an advocate to help them resolve a problem.

Another skill that I really enjoy using is education.  I love having Geocaching 101 events, encouraging others to learn about geocaching, putting out puzzle caches that teach cachers how to solve puzzles (and hopefully, get them to not ignore puzzles on the map!), and always answering questions from cachers about how to solve any puzzles.  I get questions periodically from cachers outside of the area that see that I’ve solved nearby caches (including ones in MN), requesting a hint…I love giving them a hint or 2 to nudge them along the way…and waiting for them to have the AHA! moment…that is the best!

I have a Quality Engineering background. I enjoy identifying issues and finding solutions. I am good at looking at a process and finding ways to improve the outcome or make the process more efficient. I am an out-of-the-box thinker and often come up with crazy ideas. Some of them work, some are real stinkers. I enjoy listening to people. I have found that everyone has a story and they are willing to share it if you are willing to listen. I enjoy writing and hope to be an asset to the communications team. I enjoy seeing others succeed. I am looking forward the helping the BOD achieve their goals.

I have an IT background of 20 years before I went into manufacturing for the following 3 years.  I like to see projects through to completion.

I have 2 years of BOD experience currently with the WGA.  So, I bring “working knowledge” to the table.

The skills I can bring to the board are being a problem solver, listening to other perspectives, and being a team player.  Most of my work has been around solving problems working through issues which involves understanding the options available and which ones may work best then implementing the chosen option.  In addition, my work has required that I take the time to listen to and understand others’ perspectives in order to work together to get work and projects done.  To do that, I have to be a team player which sometimes means taking the lead and other times letting others take the lead.  I believe all of these skills can be an asset to the board.

My background is primarily in IT and Programming, however I have quite a bit of experience in other areas as well, such as Project Management. With that background, I have a lot of experience with problem solving, task management, and an understanding of how to effectively drive a task to completion.

As a side gig at my job, I also help out with the event planning committee for the various activities and events put on throughout the office.
