Yep, I got one today from Miller Park and you can see a stretched Lincoln on the back side.

I rememeber being a girl scout leader and taking sheets of copper that we got at the hobby store and pounding them over tiles to get the images off of it. Could you not roll a thin piece of copper over a image of Lincoln and produce the same effect? I’m just asking… I am going to the museum this weekend and I bet they have one of those thingys down there. I am going to note the year and minting number on it and see if I get it back. 😆

I gotta say we were pretty disapointed in the machines at the Milwaukee Museum. They are electric now, and take all the fun out of cranking them on our own. 🙁

I don’t think that you will be able to see a squashed date as it is a pretty faint image when it is done. The best way to see if it is to squish several and see if you get stretched out Abe(Heads) or The memorial (tails).
I really think that if the manufacturers of the machines did it with blanks, they wouldn’t charge 51¢

(you could also use a tarnishe penny and a shiny one to see the difference.)

Oh, and you can feel the resistance when you crank the handle as it squishes the penny too.
