Trekkin’ did a little caching between here and Oshkosh, and was confronted in many places with knee deep snow. So…..
What’s the snow cover like around Stevens Point and to the east of there?
Where are the winter friendly caches on page 37 of the delorme? That’d be places like Jefferson, Lake Mills and Johnson Creek. I have Friday off and that hole on our map is bugging the heck out of me, but I know the area has tons of snow. If I drive all that way down there, I want to be able to claim more than a couple caches. Thanks.

We are looking to get up to 8 inches of snow in the Jefferson Waukesha area tonite..you may want to hold off till spring.
02/25/2008 at 6:12 pm #1885087Yep, Waukesha we do have snow .. lots of it .. with more on the way. Check back after this next storm.
I could tell you which of The Tapps hides are winter friendly and which are currently buried until thaw if you REALLY wanted to trek this way.
Gr8 Eyes car was parked out on the street in front of our house on Saturday .. about all you could see was the roof from the front window.

02/25/2008 at 11:06 pm #1885088We saw some of the caches near us that you logged recently. If you were able to do those, you should be able to do the ones around SP and east.
When we were there (Waupaca, Wild Rose, Wautoma) a month ago, we found knee-deep snow and were short on time later, so we didn’t try too many, but after clearing the snow off our roof and having to get around in hip-deep stuff for that, lesser snow amounts look easy.
The more caches you try in the deep snow, the more it wears you down (our experience), but from your finds, you look up to handling more than a handful at a time. And you’ve been finding the buried micros!
Of course, today is only Monday, and we’re still waiting for THE BIG ONE to hit this winter.
02/25/2008 at 11:22 pm #1885089We realize you are looking more for chances of success than how to handle the snow depths. You have your handy-dandy winter caching tool, but more importantly, you have your skills and experience.
It’s a crap-shoot whenever we go out, but we’d say the odds are in your favor of finding enough caches to make a trip to the Point area worthwhile. Just check out the sheer numbers of hides to choose from! Active caching country, thanks to some dedicated hiders here.
02/25/2008 at 11:50 pm #1885090Yes, we have snow over here!
02/25/2008 at 11:54 pm #18850916 PM and not a flake insight in Greenfield .. Yeah!
02/26/2008 at 1:26 am #1885092Hi sandlanders, Trekkin’ got those few near you this weekend, and passed on a lot more after, as you say, just getting worn out from the trudging through snow. We’d been up near Rice Lake the weekend before doing some awesome caches, but we had more whiffs than usual, I’m sure because of the snow depth.
Still not sure what we’ll do. I do know we’re not caching on Saturday. 😯 Going on a hike to the ice caves of the Kickapoo Valley Reserve instead. Hmm. Did somebody say “earthcache?” Maybe. We’ll see!
02/26/2008 at 2:17 am #1885093Here’s a couple on page 37 that are very winter friendly, but not very short-person friendly:
GC17YMP
GC11PCC
This one would also probably be a good one, though the last finder said it was icy there and the log is wet: GCN83G
02/26/2008 at 2:42 am #1885094looks like they have changed our forecast to 1-2 inches…but that is still on top of the foot and a half that is already on the ground.
02/26/2008 at 3:33 am #1885095I agree with Lostby7!
Did some caches in the Waukesha area on Saturday, and boy, the snow was deep!

02/26/2008 at 12:36 pm #1885096I think we have had enough snow this year
02/26/2008 at 3:51 pm #1885097Ah, remember the good old days of December ’07? When there was only a foot of snow on the gound? And we thought there’d be plenty of time for the weather to improve to go out winter caching?
02/26/2008 at 10:13 pm #1885098Enough already.
02/26/2008 at 10:22 pm #1885099No more please
