We plan on being there, ice or not, also.

I’m still making an attempt to make this trip, however, I do work Friday night and would prefer not to have to take a full day of vacation. I plan on driving up as early as need be to make the trek on Saturday. What is the proposed start time and location?

Also, I will be alone, so if others in the area would want to make the trip, I have room in the vehicle.

That would be a blast – would enjoy the company on the ride!

I have been trying to keep my schedule open to be able to attend this. I am planning on coming along (and would probably be ready to go early Saturday). My wife is still deciding if she will come along.

Sorry, missed this question. Start time is still up for discussion. I was thinking either before or after noon. A bunch of us will be staying over Friday night but we could try some other caches for the morning to give you driving time. We will start from the parking lot at the end of Mawikwe road to the west of the cache. I believe there will be a small parking fee (not sure where I read that but pretty sure I did).

    Great! Think ice. 😀

Might be making ice good now. I just hope the NE winds that are due to come in tonight won’t break any up. At least down here they’re calling for the wind.

My reservations have been made. The gentleman I talked to said that rooms have been starting to move pretty good for that weekend. If one is interested in SeaGull Bay, I would suggest calling soon. He also said the he lives in the woods and has a good three feet of snow on the ground. He also said the trails should be packed real good right now. Looking forward to seeing every one. Rooms also have refrigerators and microwaves.

The nice thing about this trip is with the really cold weather we’ve been having I keep thinking “Well, it’s good for making ice anyway.”

Here’s what we’re thinking as far as a plan:

Some folks are driving up Saturday morning, some are going to be in Bayfield Friday night. We can try a few other caches for the morning and we make a middle of the day run for the cache. Problem- no place that I know of any where near the cache access to get food. So, while we can’t fit our whole camp kitchen outfit in the car for the weekend we can fit in a folding table and the backpacking stoves. So, we will cook up a couple big ol’ pots of chili for lunch in the parking lot. I’m thinking we’ll have the lunch 11:30-12:15 or so? We will need some rough count of folks for lunch so as we get a little closer I’ll start a list.

There are coords on the cache page for the parking lot. It’s listed as : N 46° 52.991 W 091° 02.850. That looks a little off on Mapsource but it’s plenty close enough to get you there. FYI- There is a parking fee for the lot. Mrs. OPS said she found it listed somewhere as three dollars.

As for the Seagull filling up for the weekend. I think we have something to do with that. We must have seven rooms now?

I noticed on the Seagull’s web site, that they had rooms w/1 queen size bed, and rooms w/1 queen size bed and a futon (or something to that effect) and both were priced the same. Typo or not, if two people wanted to double up, it would be worth asking about.

Talked to a coworker today who made the trip to the caves this last weekend. She said there was no ice at all. They hiked along the top but she said it was still a great experience and they had a wonderful time. I’m still hoping for ice though…

How long is the hike? Is is shorter staying atop the cliffs?

This one has been on my bucket list for some time now…winter should be outstanding! I’d love to make it, and will check with the “other Barnes Babes” to see if I have a chaperone, (oh…I meant partner!)

Everything is still a go for this trip. Pretty doubtful we’ll have any ice to walk upon but we’re still going to go and hike along the top. Maybe it’ll drop to -50 next week? 😉
