Question: Do I have to buy special boots to fit into the snowshoes.
12/28/2009 at 3:44 am #1918119I just wear my regular winter boots. The bindings adjust to fit the boot.

Mine fit fine with my hunting boots due to the adjustable bindings. I have a 12 EEE boot w/ 10″ uppers and they fit fine. It appears most of the adjustable bindings are all made similarly.
12/28/2009 at 5:25 am #1918121We use Atlas Snowshoes from REI. Love them!! We did two plus miles yesterday at Devil’s Lake State Park, and climbed the bluff on the Ice Age Trail. Once on top we headed bushwhacking cross country to a bluff overlook area I’ve always wanted to see, but never had in 60+ years of living near here. Absolutely beautiful new views. Snowshoes will get you there, but be careful and take proper precautions. Have fun!!
12/28/2009 at 1:39 pm #1918122Any boots should work but we highly recommend wearing gators over the boots to keep snow out.
TE12/28/2009 at 2:11 pm #1918123I also have the Atlas snowshoes and love them. My Lacrosse Ice Kings are too big to wear with my shoes, but they are pretty heavy to be snowshoeing anyways. Gators work well also ans would recommend poles too, but poles could be next year’s gift.
12/28/2009 at 6:33 pm #1918124I am wondering about snowshoes labeled as Womens, vs snowshoes that aren’t specifically mens or womens. What makes them “women’s”? I have been searching websites of sporting goods places and prices vary quite a bit. Some places have womens styles at a slightly less cost than those called mens or those without a gender label. Would a smaller woman have difficulty maneuvering mens snowshoes?

No. Shoes are not gender specific. A womens snowshoe might come in pink or purple and I don’t think that the bunnies and other wild critters will care. The size of snowshoe to get is determined by your weight. You don’t want to get shoes that are meant for a 300# person. Could you use them? Sure. But it would be awkward trying to use them.
12/28/2009 at 9:16 pm #1918127The gender issue may just mean the suggested weight limit and the width of the shoe.

TEI don’t get kickbacks from Cabelas or Atlas but they have a huge deal on them right now. Will also add that they are made in the USA!
Atlas Snoeshoes @Cabelas
Read the reviews there. They are only $10 more than the Yukon Charlies( thou there is nothing wrong Charlies) If I had the extra money,I’d buy another pair)12/28/2009 at 9:42 pm #1918129Pictures from the first trek on snowshoes today. The windmill aerator is operational again.
Near “GZ” of the aerator. Ditched the snowshoes to get out on the pier and left my backback of tools here as well.

Looking out farther into the marsh. Pristine and white.

What happens when the marsh isn’t frozen solid.

That’s not what my sources say. And there’s also something about running some illegal gambling ring out of your home. Just giving you the heads up.

I checked it out and it seems like a good deal…then I checked on shipping charges. Something like $14.95 to ship. Does that seem right? I haven’t ordered by mail in years, but that seems like a lot. And they base it on the total of your order. Why not on the weight?
