Thanks for the responses. I checked it out and it seems like a good deal…then I checked on shipping charges. Something like $14.95 to ship. Does that seem right? I haven’t ordered by mail in years, but that seems like a lot. And they base it on the total of your order. Why not on the weight?

Is it shipping or shipping and handling? That handling allows for charging a lot more than it costs to ship something. Don’t know why they do it by $$$ and not weight, but they do manage to cover their costs. $14.95 sounds OK. Anyone else?

CJ just bought a pair, you can ask what he paid, but isn’t there also a $20 off rebate? But ya that sounds right for shiping.

I don’t get kickbacks from Cabelas or Atlas but they have a huge deal on them right now. Will also add that they are made in the USA!
    Atlas Snoeshoes @Cabelas
Read the reviews there. They are only $10 more than the Yukon Charlies( thou there is nothing wrong Charlies) If I had the extra money,I’d buy another pair)

Go to the main page of Cabela’s website. There is a scrolling thing and one of the items is a $20 off on orders over $100. I did this a few weeks ago and they emailed me the e-coupon. This pays for the shipping and saves you another $5 (20 – 14.95).

Thanks again! I did find the coupon and how to get the rebate code. I am still debating the entire purchase, but I can’t wait too long. If I do get them, I post how I like them.

I have a pair of Yukon Charlies and the binding has a piece that comes over the top of your toe. I am looking for a pair for my husband and a lot of them don’t have the binding that your toe goes into. Is this an important thing or no big deal???? Don’t know if it matters but my snowshoes are 21″ and his will have to be 36″. Any ideas???

There are many types of bindings out there. We have tried at least 4-5 of them. My favorite so far have a slide pull that locks in place, much easier than the buckles. Mr. prefers the rubber ones you just pull on. I did not like those as they dug into my heels. You can even make your own out of old bike tires and rivets.

That was part of the reason for the test run today. Fortunately with the bogs it only allowed me to sink a few inches. Gotta love the rain we got that destroyed any ice out here. Note to self – be sure of your footing before putting all your weight on it.

Well, after considerable time reading all of the posts about snowshoes…I checked up on the Cabela’s Outfitter Pro series, and yup, They’re on sale, with a $20.00 instant coupon to boot. Read all of the reviews, signed onto Cabela’s site…clicked on order ( one for me and one for the MR.) OUT OF STOCK! Dangit. I ordered them anyway, as Cabela’s backorder status usually goes pretty quickly. Looks like the New Years Resolution to get out more this winter may have to wait a few weeks…Thanks for all of the info on your experiences with snowshoes guys, we’re looking forward to getting out in the winter wonderland ourselves, SOON!

I raved so much about the snowshoes my husband got me for Christmas that he decided that he wanted a pair. Being that he needs the 36″ snowshoe they are kinda hard to find in the stores. Found many of them online but really wanted to be able to look at them before we bought them. We met a lady in Sams Club in LaCrosse when we were looking at the Yukon Charlie snowshoe (which is what I have) and she was telling us about the Red Feather snowshoe that is made right in LaCrosse. I found a local dealer who sold them but they didn’t have the 36″ in stock-so back to the internet I go to search. While checking on the Red Feather site I saw that I could order them online. I took a chance and called Red Feather-it just so happens that the shoe I was looking for is out of stock for the season. But on the plus side they offered me 25% of on the next model up. With the 25% off they ended up costing only $10 more than the ones we wanted. Better yet I didn’t have to order them on-line. They allowed me to come down to their warehouse and pick them up. Hubby came home from work and went out in the yard to try them out. He seems very pleased with them. Now we are ready to do some winter caching without having to tredge through deep snow.
