…if Sagasu’s going to beat me to the FTF on a cache that’s less than 2 miles from my house anyway? 😆 😆 😉 😆

Or Zuma! 😉 😉 😉 😆 😀
03/30/2008 at 4:33 pm #1886838I guess I’m fortunate in that respect to find that Zuma! is on the other side of the state.
Actually, I’m more disappointed that we didn’t run across any of the cachers who had beat us to this find this morning. With our somewhat late start to the game, I’m guessing most of the caches we’re hunting have already been found by most of the active players around here.
03/30/2008 at 4:53 pm #1886839Don’t let distance fool ya. Zuma! will travel 3 hours for a FTF.
If there is a real good FTF opportunity, and he does not have to work the next day he might make a run in any direction. But if gas gets any higher, he might think twice or three times before making a run.03/30/2008 at 5:46 pm #1886840Zuma just happened to be in the Appleton area Thursday when the two new caches came out. He might of had FTF on both, but ha only asked for notice on traditional caches. We drove about 20 miles to get the FTF.
It’s all part of the game. You decide which how you want to play, and then jump in among the sharks!
03/30/2008 at 6:18 pm #1886841Neither of us are early risers, so we’re not liable to find much in the way of FTFs. Like I said, though, I’m just bummed we didn’t at least run across some of the others on their way out.
This particular one was JimandLinda’s Sawyer Creek cache. When we pulled in, I saw 2 other cars parked in the parking lot. For a minute I thought we were going to meet up with a couple of other cachers, but they ended up pulling out frisbees and went disc golfing in the park across the creek from the cache.
03/30/2008 at 6:32 pm #1886842I think Trekkin’ is trying to build an area reputation for this kind of behavior, too….even as I type right now! Actually, we enjoy the hunt and whether the FTF is ours or someone else’s, we would get the ones around here, anyway, so it’s all good.
But there are a few folks in our area who’ve been out to “get us,” and we really think it would be a hoot if all of us converged on one of these new ones at once. At our very first FTF, I met bandits for the very first time, and getting to know those guys is WAY more of a prize than any FTF. As is true of most cachers we’ve met and come to call “friend.” Hopefully one day you’ll get to meet some of these folks as you chase the FTF.

Heh, so I should leave the Taser at home then and hope the friendship justifies not doing what’s necessary to get the FTF? 😉
03/30/2008 at 6:54 pm #1886844Yeah, tasers can stay, unless they can be put to use to free a cache from ice or something!
Perfect example—Trekkin’ just gave me an update. Got beat to the first two by a local cacher who was only a name on logs before today. Now they are out getting the rest together. So cool when that happens!
Someone has to stay home and make dinner. Guess who that would be!

welcome to our world! you will come to learn about Dave and eventually you will come to enjoy the FAD – First after Dave as much as the FTF 🙂

Just gotta be careful when you meet them at a cache when you are goin’ for the ever elusive FTF, cause Dennis will start chatting with you while Lisa sneeks behind you and grabs the cache 😀 😯 😀
While it is fun to be the first to critique a cache as the FTFer, the honor is often coveted by many.
One possible way to get a shot at some of these since you say that you are not an early riser, Stay up late, watch your notifications as many of the reviewers tend to publish the caches between 9pm and 1130pm. At least that is what I tend to see, sometimes it would be nice to know exactly when the cache is published and how long it takes to get your INSTANT NOTIFICATION.Just remember that snatching a FTF away from Sagasu make the victory all the more sweet !!!!!

AHA! The cat (or bird as the case may be) is out of the bag, eh?
04/02/2008 at 3:19 pm #1886848FTF’s are fun, enjoyable to get but, they are HARD WORK and sometimes you have to do crazy things to get them!!! Which makes them all the more special and memorable. (see our post Red Riding Hood helps the Blondie Bloodhound to 600)
It is very competitive out there (so we found out) and yes Sagasu-son is a well oiled MACHINE when it comes to FTF’s. Again, he is a MACHINE!
However, if it wasn’t for Dave we would still be at zero for FTF’s. He has helped us to improve our FTF skills and abilities in so many ways (Thanks again Dave) And, Ry and Ny remember that Sagasu can not be the FTF on his own caches so that is a huge plus!
We found out that we had to cache differently and to think outside the box for the FTF. That, and invest in flashlights, have a caching GO bag set at all times and have a full tank of gas. Did I say be a little nocturnal also?
We only have a couple of FTF’s but I remember them all. How many times do you get to stumble around after midnight in thick fog trying to find a WSQ to get the BINGO? (Yes, it was very cold 😳 and creepy)
Or, to have bow hunters ask if your stand is going to be where you are bush whacking like an elephant to find a micro in the treeline on the WIOUWASH bike trail??
Speaking of which as of this post there is a cache out there waiting for a FTF, by Sagasu called Sagasu Sinister Semantic Search that will be someone’s FTF! 🙂 😀
Good caching!
04/03/2008 at 12:49 am #1886849I’m bogged down with a pretty nasty case of bronchitis, so I’m off the trail for a while. I seem to remember this not nailing me to the wall so bad when I was younger… 🙁
