T&B,
I’ve heard rumblings that GS is slowly tightening up on Virts. The “What In The World” virt was archived for a short period for allowing armchair logs. It may just be certain reviewers instead of anything from GS, but some areas have had quite a few “abandon” virts archived recently.
Following zuma!’s lead, I have logged two armchairs. Hey, it was a long time ago. I was new and didn’t know better… 🙂01/15/2009 at 5:09 pm #1877905Actually there were some complaints about armchair virtual logs on one particular cache, and the owner of that cache took it upon themselves to track the armchair loggers finds and file a complaint on all of them. There was only one in Wisconsin, and the owner quickly handled deleting the armchair logs. Other than that, there is no specific direction to increase enforcement on virtual cache logging. We only act on these if someone files a complaint. You can also rest assured that you would have plenty of warning before anyone archives your virtuals around here. I’m sure most of you have seen how long we wait before forcibly archiving a cache. That said, keep policing the logs!
01/21/2009 at 8:24 pm #1877906I think its’ time to give our German friends an opportunity to log a bone fide Wisconsin find and vice versa…
Keep your eyes peeled for a new s|s globetrotter….
01/21/2009 at 9:05 pm #1877907I also logged the two virtuals in Maine and at the North Pole, not knowing at the time that it was not an acceptable practice, and thinking it was an interesting idea for discovering some remote locations. There were numerous others that seemed doable that way and I had a list of them about a year ago but lost interest in favor of “real” caching where I could go out on the trail and make the finds. I do agree with some opinions that there may be a good way to have such kinds of caches, as they are interesting and educational, and do serve a purpose for those who are unable to even get out and do wheelchair accessible caches, but not sure where they fit in.

Can’t wait. Please post it when it’s published.
01/23/2009 at 1:11 pm #1877909Trudy & I also logged Four Windows and What in the world, but we changed our logs to memos. We have no need to pad our stats with virtual finds. We also had a recent visit from our German Friends [CaLLiBRi & Jazzy ] since nobody else is pointing their finger. They have been making a tour of the States, logging virtual caches from coast to coast. Since their only Wisconsin cache is Don’t look at your hands, it is a bit blatant. perhaps I should log a virtual find at each of their hides, since they wish to play by that set of rules. I don’t have time to deal with them at the moment (I’m late for work), but I will deal with them tonight, after work.

Maybe instead of just deleting logs we could take the Beast’s idea of just writing a note instead of an “I found it”. I would hope that foreign visitors are searching for interesting things rather than just an unearned smiley.

Unfortunately, you don’t have that option as a cache owner. You can only delete their logs, not edit them in any way. You can, of course, ask them to change it before you delete it. (To save you an email, reviewers can’t edit them either, only delete.)

Dave, what you said is actually what I meant, I guess that I just wasn’t clear. A friendly note asking a German friend to change their log to a note would promote good relations rather than just deleting their log.

Virtual Geocache – Don’t look at your hands (GC9EF1)
Congratulations, You found the answer on the internet.
Unfortunately, You must visit the cache to count it.
You may edit your log, or leave it there for me to delete.Trudy & the beast
