A number of them have frequented our Breakfast Get-Togethers, and even though they’re from Down There, they’ve always been welcome.

It’s time to turn the tables…

On November 8th, there’s a Chi-Town Cachers breakfast in Highland Park. Since as of late, most of my caching has been Down There (in fact, that’s where I am as I write this…) I’m planning on going. Hopefully we can get a Cheesehead contingent to show up.

Also, once you’re down here, there are dozens of new caches that have been placed in just the last couple of months, especially some great ones by Genius Loci.

Hey folks – While I have lived in Wisconsin for over ten years, I was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago. I still get down there once every few months to see the folks and do some GREAT geocaching. “Great” geocaching??? Absolutely. There are some forest preserves in southern suburbs (near Palos, Lemont and Orland Park) that are OUTSTANDING. Rugged terrain (definately deserves some of the “4” ratings I’ve seen), deep ravines, rivers, creeks, deep woods and clever multi-caches.

We’re down here visiting as I type. We did half of a wonderful multi-part “Lord of the Rings” cache yesterday. We’re finishing the second half today. There are some preserves where you can park and knock out 10-15 caches without having to move your car while covering a LOT of ground!

The woods around here make you feel like you’re in Marinette County, not a suburb of 3rd largest city in the U.S.! The best part is that since they have such a huge deer problem down here, the undergrowth is almost all gone allowing you to cut cross-country, but with little to no actual bushwacking.

The Lord of the Rings cache area is were I did my 27-cache day earlier in the year. I agree 100% about the brutality of the terrain in some of those parks. The breakfast is nowhere near Orland Park, but it’s a good reminder that if you’re looking for a change of scenery, there’s a lot of good caching just to the south.
