The Spelling Cow spell checker site we use for spell checking forum posts appears to be down. This is causing problems for people who have the auto spell check feature turned on… basically they get an error message when they attempt to post. The temporary workaround is to disable automatic spell checking.

    You can do this by:

    – Clicking on “Your Account” in the Main Menu
    – Clicking on the “Preferences” tab
    – Go to “Auto spell check” and set it to No
    – Click the Update button

In the short term (by the end of the day), I will add some “smarts” that should skip the spell checking if the Spelling Cow site is down rather than blocking you from posting. In the long term, we could/should purchase the Spelling Cow software (or some other spell checker) and put it on the WGA site.

Is that why the forums kept trying to change my posts to read “Mooooooo moo mooooooo mooo mooo moooooo!”?

    Pto

in the meantime, Everyone could just switch to Firefox – It has a built in spell checker 🙂
Just as a workaround, for now of course . . .

The Cow is still having intermittent problems… sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. So until they get their act together I have disabled auto spell checking for the 75 or so folks who had this feature enabled.

It looks like there is a new version of Spelling Cow that will spell check as you type right in the text box on the WGA site… it doesn’t have to pop up another window like the old version. I will look into getting the new version installed next week (and hopefully the new version is working)…
