Spider island has been queued for archive. Hasn’t been found since 2013 and I have just visited gz with no success. Logs mention that the cache is a PB jar while the original was an ammo box. No idea who changed the container or if it really was changed. Those who have found this one should Remember the guardians near the cache. On my last visit I was not able to locate them maybe due to lingering snow cover. Anyone wishing to attempt a final mission to keep this one alive, now is the time. I would not suggest replacing the container, but if it is there it should remain.

03/07/2016 at 1:46 pm #2047618While we have viewed Spider Island from above many times, we have not revisited the island itself since we found the cache there in September of 2008. I do not remember any guardians, so they must have appeared since our visit. I do remember that there were a lot of spots that the ammo can (as the container was at the time) could be hidden. It sounds like there are many more new hiding spots now.
Can’t say for sure, but we have talked about caching that side of Petenwell for a while now, so maybe… and that’s a big “maybe”… we could venture down the bluff or stairs this week or next to see what we can find. However, it does sound like the last visitor prior to Labrat made a thorough search in the summer (no snow) almost three years ago and came up empty.
It’s a nice place to visit, cache or no cache, and as Labrat says, now would be a really good time to make an attempt at a find (or a DNF) before this one goes away… or gets saved by someone’s extensive search.
03/07/2016 at 7:08 pm #2047642We found an ammo can on 3/28/12. Not sure what’s up with the peanut butter jar. Though we only had a blurry photo of the container and hide, we uploaded it to our log for reference. Good luck! It’s a nice place to be brought to!
