Up until now our family has cached as a team with one gc.com account. We’re considering creating a new account for my son since he’ll have some opportunity to do some caching on his own without the rest of the family this summer. Since caching is all about the numbers 😉 he would want to transfer all our previous finds to his new account. Does gc.com have anything that will do this automatically? If not, would it be considered bad etiquette to create a new found-it log on caches we’ve found (many of which are archived now) using the new account? We’d log it using the actual find date and probably put a short message to the effect that we’re creating a new account. Seems that gc.com website has been pretty fast lately so I don’t think it would take that long to do 300 caches. He’ll be driving in 2 years (can’t believe it) and assuming he’s still interested in geocaching he would probably want to have his own account at that point. I’m thinking if we’re going to do it, sooner is better than later.
Thanks,
Doug06/12/2006 at 3:07 am #1762728That’s what Mom did when she created her geocaching account — no one had any problem with her late logging.
One of these days we may have to do that for Dad too…

06/12/2006 at 4:00 am #1762729Just make it clear in your log what you are doing so people don’t freak out out when they see someone logging finds on caches that have been archived.
06/12/2006 at 12:29 pm #1762730I don’t see any problem with setting up an account for your son in that fashion. As previously stated, just make sure to log very clearly what you are doing and why.
06/13/2006 at 5:34 am #1762731And make sure that he was at all the ones he logs! If you post them on the same date as originally found it should be easy. Also, make sure he mentions the Team name when logging them.
Last year someone we know did the same thing. Only she logged caches she didn’t walk. How do I know that? ‘Cause I was there and know she wasn’t, but whatever. Numbers, numbers, numbers. 😉
I hope your son does take credit for the ones he walked, and I hope he continues to cache! My kids got tired of it and no longer walk with us. (That makes me sad!)
Good luck to all of you!
