The Spring CVB event will launch on 4/14 and run through 6/3. Last year there were over 4000 entries from 13 states. Not a bad first run! However, not being satisfied when things can be improved, we press on. It will be the same format as before, with some major changes.

First, there will be, as of tonight anyway, 75 caches to find, with most of them (goal of 50) being ones you can count for smileys as well. The plan is to also include 3 or 4 night caches, a puzzle cache or two, some high difficulty caches (dare I say a 5???), etc.

Second, there will be a kick off combo event. There will be several geocaching 101 classes held on kick-off day as well as a CITO event hosted by WI-Robin. She will post more info on this soon.

Third, there will be a final event hosted by Zuma! The plan at this point will be to have it in a location for the final weekend that will have camping, food, places for vendors, entertainment, bonfire, etc. Zuma will have more info on this as well.

Stay tuned for more info and links to the event pages. Have questions? Email me!

Sounds awesome Kent! Too bad our spring break occurs a week too early and school doesn’t let out until it’s over. 😥 Maybe we can make one of the events.

Perhaps next year you might consider the school schedule for those who have families?

But with 50 new permanent placements, there will be plenty to keep us busy once we can get up there. Have fun with it everyone!

Sheesh, Rhinelander Chippewa Valley, I might have to take a week off.

Sounds like a great event. Hope my schedule allows me to get there for some of it.

    I’ll be there…likely in April…. 😛
I’m hoping all the caches will be in place right away?

    Hey all,

As Kent said, this year’s Chippewa Valley event will run from 4/14/07 thru 6/3/2007. Robin will be planning a kickoff event on 4-14-07 that will be a CITO event. Those wishing to help her with the CITO event, should get in touch with her. That same day, Kent will be coordinating training programs for new cachers in the area, who want to get involved. Those who may wish to help with that portion of the program, should get in contact with him.

Searching for the event caches also begins April 14th. Booklets will be similiar to last year, with the need to get a punch at each cache location. Caches will be hid throughout Chippewa, Eau Claire and Dunn Counties. As Kent said, many will be listed on gc.com, but not all. Those that are listed, will be published 4-14-07.

Those of you hiding caches for the event, should have received an email from Kent tonight. If you didnt get the email from Kent about what the requirements are, and you are intending to hide a cache for the event, email Kent soon.

We are also planning a big event to conclude the event. Caches will be available to hunt until midnight June 2, 2007. We are hoping to have a fairly large 3 day event, with camping Friday and Saturday nights, which will allow campers to look for the caches on Saturday. On Sunday, June 3 we are planning a “geocaching festival” which we hope will include the awarding of the geocoins, the many great prizes, as well as geocaching related games, displays and a general geocaching related fun. I hope to make the event big enough to make it a mega-event in future years, but that remains to be seen. Those willing to help with the “Geocaching Festival” June 1 – 3, can contact me, as it will take a lot of volunteers to make this part of the event a success.

If you have questions, feel free to post them here. We are looking forward to a really exciting geocaching event here in the Chippewa Valley, and hope as many geocachers from the Chippewa Valley as possible can volunteer to make it a success, and as many people from across the state find the time to attend. It should be a great time.

Yes, all the caches will appear April 14. Most, but not all, will also be on gc.com. You will be able to download a booklet like last year describing each cache, the given coordintates, etc. It will also be possible to download the coordinates. It will not be possible to do the event caches totally paperless, because of the need to print out the booklet to verify being at the cache, but getting a punch.

If possible please try to mark caches that are listed on GC.com with the attribute of Geodog friendly. Last years was great but did come across quite a few places that banned our beloved pet. Will be happy to hit a few of the caches and will try to make it to one of the events.

There are very few parks in this area not dog friendly. Wakanda Park in Menomonie and Irvine Park in Chippewa Falls around the animals are the only 2 that I can think of, and that is reasonable. Jesse, my geohound goes with me everywhere (except cemetary hides) and we have had no problems.

So bring your hound. She will enjoy it.

    !

Good point Jennfer. We will try to keep this in mind for next year. But for this year, the dates are set in stone. Three possibilities for people like you with kids:

    1. Come up the weekend of the CITO kick-off event, do a little CITO and grab a CITO coin for your efforts and do some of the 75 or so new caches.

    2. Come up Memorial Day weekend, which does fall during the dates the caches will be open.

    3. Come up the finale weekend, and grab as many as ya can on the last day, and then stay for the geocaching festival on Sunday, and get the cool new Chippewa Valley geocaching coin for attending.

(Robin will post the artwork for both of the new coins soon.)

Will attending the final event be the only way to get a coin this year?
I see myself hitting 30 or so caches (I hope more but I’m trying to be realistic).

    #1769822

I know. I was trying to have it so there would be summer break time as was the case last year so kids and families could play. However, when working with CVB, there are other events that get booked out year or so in advance. There was thought given, but it did not happen this time. Ralph, thanks for the messages on this too! Many hands and all that…

The other two won’t work for us, but I will try to make this one. I just wish I had a week to spend like last year. 8)

Yes, the Chippewa Valley geocoin will be free to those who attend the event June 3.

There will be other prizes, some quite nice, associated with visiting the caches. So it is a win-win-win. Plus you will get smilieys this year with most of the caches, and we know that even though it is not about the numbers, we all love the smileys.

I think marking caches as geodog friendly – both on gc.com & in the booklet (since some won’t become gc.com caches) is a good idea. We ran into that problem after driving out to do the caches at Big Falls county park, only to have to skip them since the geodog wasn’t allowed on the trail.

This sounds like a great event – I hope we can make it up there again.
