Bobcat and Da Bloodhound are teaming up for this event! We are planning some easy and moderate hides but right now, nothing too difficult. We will have a couple of multis, maybe more. Puzzle caches maybe but if we do, we’ll make them location based so return trips won’t be required.
02/18/2007 at 1:53 am #1769828I vote for puzzle caches!! I just love those things!
02/20/2007 at 8:44 am #1769829Here is a preview to the coin that will be given out at the final event.

and the back – it will not look exactly like this, it will be plain metal 3D image. The picture is of Big Falls with some “wildlife” photoshopped in.

The micro coin for the CITO event will be similar to the one posted on the event page, but there will be a few changes. When a final design is worked out I will post it. Both coins will be trackable on geocaching.com and have their own icons. I hope you enjoy them!!
02/20/2007 at 8:29 pm #1769830BIG FALLS!!!! I love Big Falls! I spent much time there as a kid.
That’s awesome! You will definitely be seeing me at this event.
02/21/2007 at 12:17 am #1769831LOVE the coin design! The falls were the best… especially if you enter the park on the correct side. 😳
02/21/2007 at 3:31 am #1769832Small change in plans. The CITO coin is not going to be provided as initially indicated. Problem with cost and sponsorship. Details pending, but things are rolling! I had the back of my van full of ammo cans this weekend, looks like count is indeed gonna be around 80 caches with MOST being ones that count for smilies!!!!
02/21/2007 at 4:55 am #1769833Yes, there will be CITO coins. They won’t be Chippewa Valley specific, but they will CITO coins, trackable with an icon…….. there’s more than one way to get the job done 😀 ! I will post art when all of the details are confirmed.
02/22/2007 at 1:54 am #1769834Love the coin! One thing I’d add…….(I know it’s too late but maybe next time) a small wisconsin robin located in the area typically reserved for an artists signature!
02/22/2007 at 2:12 am #1769835Now back to the event.
Bobcat and DaBloodhound are not posting our hides on GC.com right away. Some may make it, hopefully most do but we don’t want GC.com approval to determine our locations. What we will do, is if our CVTB caches are too close to an existing hide of ours, we’ll disable and pull the existing hide allowing the new CVTB hide to be approved.
If we determine after our placement of our CVTB hide that we are too close to someone Else’s cache to meet GC.com approval, we’ll pull our hide after the event.
Our goal is to provide the most memorable geocaching experience. We feel the only way we can do that is to find our stash spots, build the caches, make the multis or puzzles, and then determine if the caches will meet the GC.com approval standards. If they do, we’ll send them in for approval.
We understand that it may be doing double duty to go back and see if our caches are log-able for a smiley and we apologize for that in advance. That is not our intent. We simply believe that, although it’s fun to find a cache, ultimately it’s the cache stash spot that makes it memorable.
02/23/2007 at 5:54 pm #1769836I will try to place my caches in places that can be approved by gc.com as well, but as I’ve been given some locations that are already pretty saturated, there may be some caches that can’t get approved. We know everyone wants to get their smileys, but last year we didn’t have a lot that were regular caches, and very few people seemed to mind. On the other hand, since a bunch of mine will be near existing caches, for those who haven’t done them yet, it presents an opportunity. And for those who have already done them, like bobcat says, it’s about the place, so enjoy the area!

All of the caches that I will be putting out for the event, will be loggable on gc.com.
Those putting out caches near any of my existing caches, may contact me, and I may be able to archive a cache so that yours can be loggable. Depends on the location.

02/27/2007 at 3:02 am #1769838Yep, same thing I was doing Zuma. I am going to archive a couple of mine to open up area for new ones. Thanks for the help!!
02/27/2007 at 11:06 pm #1769839WOW, AWESOME looking coin, Robin! I’d say about 75% of the ones we are hiding will be loggable on GC.com. A few will definitely NOT fall within their guidelines. Our event caches will attempt to draw you to the surrounding area outside of Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls and Menomonie and show you what the rural part of the Chippewa Valley has to offer from it’s quaint villages to it’s wild countryside! Can’t wait to see that beautiful coin in person!
03/01/2007 at 4:20 pm #1769840On Sunday, April 14th the Eau Claire Area Visitor Center is holding a “Learn the Basics of Geocaching” seminar from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM. If you are interested in learning more about this FREE event or to register, call 888-523-3866. Hope to see you all there!
03/15/2007 at 12:42 am #1769841Brief update for you.
We have a crew of about 10 people hiding caches. So far I have mine, Bobcats, Jim1830 and jenhen’s in. We are sitting at 42 caches I am puttnig in a GPX file for download and so far all but 5 are GC.COM submitted or approved. The rest of the crew still has almost a week to submit the coords to me, so, it is looking good!!! I think we will have more than 40 gc.com approved. Unlike last year there are some mystery caches, puzzle caches, multi stage caches and 3 night caches. There are some high difficulty ratings and easy too; in other words, something for everyone!
A special thanks to our Reviewers who are being patient and a HUGE help!!! A special thanks to waytags.com for the generous donations too. The tags ROCK!
Prize packages are nice too. Garmin eTrex Legend CX package, camping gear package, some other nice stuff too that I can’t remember right now.
Like last year, the event will go live at midnight 4/14. You will register and then be able to download passbook and cache coordinate file. I am also trying a GSAK file that will have coords, ratings, hints too, but no guarantee that will work the way I want. I am a reforming luddite…
As with last year, caches will have typical swag, but also coupons, and other stuff from local businesses; FREE FOOD AND DRINK ABOUND!!!
Caches will also have a punch or stamp to validate passbook.
Stay tuned for more updates.
