I also forgot we forgot the dollars for the person in the DNR to purchase the items (researching the items, getting bids, receiving the items, sending them to us.) Somebody to make the announcement (their time and effort) The time of the coordinator at each state park and the person updating all the web pages for the DNR .
I don’t know the answer to this for sure, but since the Get Outdoors program itself is a DNR program, and the DNR is actively looking for partnerships, I would think (?) that they would have the expectation to make some resource committments on their end to make those partnerships work.
GR is correct here. The state park geocaching proposal that we sent to the DNR is built upon their existing Get Outdoors! Wisconsin idea. See http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/parks/interp/getoutdoors/
Essentially, they have been prodded by a national get outdoors program to develop something, and the only thing they have had money to develop so far is the web page above. Our proposal builds on that, and in my telephone conversation with the DNR was the one thing thing that is a strong motivator for them, hence the name and the logo.

This is misleading at best…
I submitted the proposal today. The only change made from the draft posted here, and the final version is that I changed the word “most” to “often” since I agree we dont want to include an untrue statement in our proposal.
thanks for spotting that.

Just a quibble, but I would say often excellent

I was commenting on the fact that the proposal was submitted… 😀
02/19/2010 at 9:58 pm #1921150“Get outdoors” huh? It’s catchy 😀 I like it!
02/19/2010 at 10:15 pm #1921151Interestingly, the DNR is giving UW-Green Bay an $18,000 grant to study the phenomenon of “thrill killing”–

It appears the DNR does have money somewhere. It will be interesting to see if they have the budget for the Get Outdoors and go Geocaching program.
On the Left Side of the Road...02/19/2010 at 10:30 pm #1921152We were just up at Perrot Park and talked with the Park Manager there. I told her about the work zuma did on this and she thinks it would be great. She shared that they get MANY people visiting Perrot simply on account of geocaching. Hopefully her superiors will feel the same. She thinks the MN program is awesome.
02/19/2010 at 11:43 pm #1921153Just an update on this. We sent the proposal to the DNR on Feb 1, as planned. The DNR has indicated receipt of it, and their management team will be considering it March 8/9. As I know more, I will keep the membership posted of progress.

02/20/2010 at 3:54 pm #1921154This is going to be a great program. Between this one and the “Get in the Game” program from the Boy Scouts geocaching, will be growing by leaps and bounds this year. I know its early but I will volunteer to take care of Lake Kegonsa State Park since i had plans to place a few caches there anyway. Also what about a geocoin with the Get Outdoors logo on it?
04/13/2010 at 10:14 pm #1921155Anything about this yet???
04/13/2010 at 10:27 pm #1921156As of yesterday, Ralph shared that he had sent a follow up to the folks involved to see where we’re at with this. He had not heard anything back, at least as of his last update to the Board.
This is Ralph’s baby, so we can wait for him to chime in, but I just happened to be on here when I saw the question.
04/13/2010 at 10:55 pm #1921157Thanks for the update. I was just thinking about the proposed program myself.

Yep, Zumette is 2 days short of 1, and Thursday is her first Birthday.
I emailed the state contact last week for an update on this program, and so far no response.
