Bump??? Anything from DNR? It’s going to be hard to get everything in place by Memorial Day at this rate.

I have not heard back. I would not expect anything to happen that quick either.

We have read all the posts and we are wondering if the states onboard or what? We would like to place caches in Long Lake State Park as their is only one in the park itself. There are 3 on top of Dundee Kame. 2 reg, nad i Earth. Is this a go or what?

Last June, Sandlanders and I spent most of a day with about 30 state park naturalists at Hartman Creek S.P. We showed them all kinds of caching stuff, and then turned them loose with GPS’ to find caches we’d hidden.

According to the info shared at that meeting, every state park property was to be supplied with a box full of Garmin GPS’, along with programming materials to be used at their park, supplied by state park HQ in Madison. On behalf of WGA, we offered the services of our local active cachers to work with the naturalists in the placing and maintaining of caches. This seemed to be well received, in that the naturalists would have a say in the placements, but we’d take care of the caches.

Sounds sorta like the official proposal from the WGA to the DNR, eh?

Interestingly, I’ve gotten volunteered to deliver canoes and kayaks to this same group this June. No geocaching this year, they want to paddle. I will certainly look for opportunity to speak with some of the state park brass we met last year, who seemed all gung ho to get more geocaching going in their properties.

Just a quick update on this. It is still in the works, but it is taking a lot longer than I had hoped. When there is more progress, I will let folks know. Really nothing new to report, other than we have again talked, and the DNR remains quite interested in doing this.

The issue back in 2010 was that the DNR was not staffed appropriately, so did not have the manpower or resources to work on the project. I had to speak to the director of the department because the right person was a job that was not filled and not allowed to be filled.

I think it is a great idea, and should be pursued. A reasonable first step would be to contact the DNR and see if that position has been filled and who the correct contact person is. I am going to send what I have to Becca and Chris so they do not have to start from square one.

As an aside, but a related aside, does anyone know the GC number for the WI State Park Challenge? 🙂 🙂

Ralph. I have a friend who is pretty big buds with the Gov. Her and her hubby “use to” cache. HELL! Now that I think about it, I think she is good friends with the gal who is the Director of the DNR or whatever the position is called. She may be able to help.

Becca and I are moving forward with this plan. Thanks Ralph for the update.

Everyone else- any input you have will be helpful.

I’ve enjoyed doing some of the MN State Park challenges, even if I didn’t make it to every park…but, quite a lot of people did and I think it’s a great idea. Now that I’m on the “inside” of the WI DNR, managing one of the parks, I wouldn’t mind being involved with promoting and planning one for the WI State Parks, but first I need to pass probation, lol.

That’s great! Feel free to PM Walking Adventure or myself (or any BOD really) about this project, what you know, what you’d like to do, etc. Thanks! Which park do you work at?
