Sorry, someone posted a topic in the “General” forums, asking if a park sticker is needed for the picnic.

I tried moving it here to the picnic forum, but made a mistake and accidently deleted the topic. I couldn’t figure out how to recover the deleted thread.

I believe the answer is YES, you do need a vehicle admission sticker for the picnic, as this is a State facility.

I have never seen the admission building “personed”, and I don’t think there is payment box on site. However, just across the road at the John Muir trails there is another admission building and there is almost always someone there happy to sell you a sticker.

Otherwise, the Ottawa Lake Campground (hwy ZZ) sells them (that’s where I got mine) or the Forest Headquarters (hwy 59). Perhaps the other campgrounds too, but I’m not sure.

Alternatively, if you are coming on highway 12, you can stop at the LaGrange General Store (12 & H) to get a permit. They also have free parking if you want to walk/run/bike/hitchhike/CARPOOL (with someone who already has an annual sticker) the 1.5 miles from the store to the picnic area. The parking is directly across highway H from the store. Note that if it doesn’t rain, you will be competing for parking with the mountain bikers.

Does anyone know if there is a different sticker for out of state people or is it the same one with a different price?

It is a different sticker. It is the same design but a different color, and it says “non-resident” on the back.

Probably a better option for the out of state folks is to buy a day pass for $10 instead of the $35 non-resident annual sticker. Day passes are also available for Wisconsin residents for $7.
