It depends on the situation – if there’s a group of people near by, watching my every move, if I just walk over to where the cache is hidden, chances are pretty high it’s going to disappear soon after, so I either try to be “stealthy” or more often than not, I’ll just come back later. If they seem more interested than suspicious, I’m happy to tell them what I’m doing – I think I’ve gotten a few people started that way. That said, whenever I’m trying to be sneaky, I have more trouble finding the cache, and if I just act normal and go do it, I don’t have any trouble!

I normally go caching by myself. If there is anyone close I usually leave and come back later. One time after replacing a cache, I turned to go back to the truck and saw a young teenager watching me. I felt really bad that it might be muggled because of me. I e-mailed the owner to explain what happened and she said not to worry about it. That’s over a year ago and it is still being found and logged. I feel better about a stealth hide if I am with someone else.

I tend to go no stealth (which is easier in the Great Northwoods), but will tend to try stealth with kids in the area OR will just end up coming back later. For some reason I tend to think a kid will be curious and take a cache – maybe too much teaching?!?

Stealth? What is that? Kind of hard to be stealthy when you take the dog with you and he listens about as well as the wife and kids do. Not at all.
