Yes, this is geocaching related. You’ve all seen those books about weird stuff in Wisconsin. Some of the weird stuff may be an actual roadside attraction, and sometimes, I know there are geocaches at these places.
Off the top of my head, I can think of one near the Big Musky, the concrete park in Phiilips, Dr. Evermore’s place and the Dickeyville Grotto. If you are aware of a geocache of any type placed at any such locations in the state, please pm me with the GC number and attraction.
You do know where this is leading, right? Don’t worry, we have to do it all first, LOL.
04/07/2009 at 1:28 am #1905316Is this going to be a new challenge? Cool I better ream my book to get all edjamacated on the weird stuff.
04/07/2009 at 1:39 am #1905317This could be very interesting. I have to dust off the ol’ book and read up on the oddities.

On the Left Side of the Road...04/07/2009 at 1:56 am #1905319It’s gonna take awhile, but yes, I thought it would be a fun counterpoint to zuma’s Unique Natural Features Challenge. Perhaps “Unique Unnatural Features” Challenge?
Once I have some idea of how many there might actually be, we can work in it. I’m trying to think of a weird spot close by where the cache could be placed. I think vtwinspin already has the big 6-pack locked up! I’ll have to decide which “weird” book is my standard, too. I have “Wisconsin Oddities,” but I also looked at “Weird Wisconsin” and “Strange Wisconsin” at the bookstore today.

Hmm Would that be a freudian typo?

I have all three books and they all pretty much cover all the same things.

04/07/2009 at 12:22 pm #1905325Marc, Can you tell me the location of that flamingo in Appleton? I’m assuming there’s a nearby cache.
And….does anyone know if there’s a cache in Poiniatowski by the 45-90 geological marker? If there isn’t, there should be!
04/07/2009 at 12:47 pm #1905326There is a cache at the 45/90 marker. It’s a Virtual called “World Wide Quarters”. GC229B We love stopping at places like that. (Stopped by the Billytown cache so Bill could have his picture taken there.)
04/07/2009 at 1:04 pm #1905327Thanks, just located it.
I did the Billytown one, too. Kind of blows a person’s mind to stand on that roadside and contemplate an entire town once there.
04/07/2009 at 1:23 pm #1905328I know that this is in the book but it is on private property so GC would not allow it. ____ In A Tree
04/07/2009 at 1:32 pm #1905329What a sweet idea for a “challenge” cache!
I love reading those strange/weird book series. There’s also the “Haunted” books as well…
