We have not put out a whole lot of micros, but I’m working on a series on the LaCrosse River Trail and in many cases, they make sense for this. Under a bench, on a bridge rail, that kind of placement.
So, having already had one bite the dust due to poor quality velcro, and trying to replace with what I thought was better velcro, but was not…
What do others use for placing things like matchsticks on wooden benches? Where do you get it? Brand and style specifics? This stuff I have sure doesn’t stick very well.
Wouldn’t they be in a craft store or a craft department at Wally World?
That’s what I had. I’m hoping someone can share the brand name or “style” of whatever has the best adhesive.
Or do you all add some kind of adhesive when attaching it?
I got some bulk velco at the local Hardware Hank. Comes off a roll so you can buy as much as you want. I put a few drops of gurilla glue on the back to help it stick. Just make sure it’s a dry surface.
Aha! I’ll give that a try. I know we’ve done plenty of caches where the velcro seems to stay in place. Now I know the secret!
Thanks.
The secret to making velcro stick to wood is to staple it to the wood. A good long staple will hold the velcro strip tight.

Yes, that works too or flat thumb tacks. But don’t like putting them in to living trees.
You can buy velcro at Joann Fabrics. I agree use Gorilla Glue to adhere it to the container. Staple to the wooden bench.
The brand I got at Wal-Mart is called “Velcro Extreme” for rough surfaces. I have some holding the “Lift Bridge” cache on for over two years now and it’s still there. The glue and staple addition sounds like a good idea, but I haven’t had to use it. Good luck on the new hides!
