Still to date some of the best EC’s we’ve done. This park was a great place to hike with an almost prehistoric feel to it. Amazing tree formations besides all of the rock formations and caves. Also the remaining standing stone framework of the old hotel nearby is worth the visit.

Then be sure to check out GC1ZVZW.

It is only .1 mile as the crow flies from the nearest EarthCache, but you have to leave the park to avoid crossing the hotel grounds, which are private, albeit frequently trespassed.

Unfortunately this was published after we were at the caves last fall. This gives us a definite reason to drive by again next time we’re in the area.

I’m not going to go into the details because I’m sick of it, but I just want to vent a little steam and say my first attempt to publish a EarthCache will be my last.

Perhaps I’m just an idiot newbie who just started doing EarthCaches and don’t deserve to have an opinion on the matter, but…. if there is going to be a “virtual” cache system related to the earth available, there needs to be an option out there for more than just caches about rocks or holes in the ground. Sometimes there is a great lesson to be shared (such as the human attempt to correct our negative impact on habitats) and hiding a small plastic container on the site completely misses the point.

And that is all I have to say about that.

Ditto. I understand the theory of EarthCaches, but why not accept “Earth Friendly”. I was attempting to work with a group the does Solar, Wind, Hydro, etc. but quickly discovered they weren’t eligible for EarthCaches because they weren’t “Earthy” enough. Considering this was a “Green” group they weren’t a fan of the containers, but like the more virtual learning concept.

Maybe we should push for a “Earth Friendly / Green” cache type. Similar to a virtual, but must focus on being “Green”.
