We also live in the Northwest part of the state. We attended the campouts at Lake Wissota in 2005 and Peninsula State Park in 2006. We also stopped at the campout at Hartman Creek in 2004 since we were on that side of the state that day at another function.

As Grousetails stated, A person does not realize the size of one of these campouts until you have attended one. The amount of work setting an event up of that magnitude is huge. Finding a place with a large enough area for all the temp caches is not usually the problem but a place with the required amenities is. Also the place has to be close enough to a decent amount of hotels for people who do not camp.

There have been events the last couple of years in Eau Claire although we did not attend either of them. You can hold an event without it being a WGA sanctioned event. People do it all the time.

You can’t let the fact that most of the events are going to be 4+ hours away from home get you down. I find it a good reason to get away for the weekend. I used to complain that there is not enough events up in this part of the state but the fact is that most of the population live down south. As far as I am concerned they can stay there because I like living in a rural area. 😀

Back on topic I would like to see the next campout be held at either Governor Dodge State Park or Devil’s Lake State Park.
