If you happen to be someone planning to teach a geocaching 101 type class, please consider the following:
Be cautious with Travel Bugs!
For an upcoming “class” I plan on SHOWING “newbies” a Travel Bug and explaining the Travel Bug, but NOT letting them record the Travel Bug tag number. The “students” should also be encourage to signup an account on geocaching.com BEFORE they go out geocaching on their own and ESPECIALLY BEFORE they consider taking a Travel Bug out of a geocache or take one from an event/training trade table.
(I’ve run into a situation where a travel bug that I had physically in my hands got grabbed away from me 3 times by “newbies” that attended a training. The last occurrence happened 42 days after the training! … the same day they decided to set themselves up an account online. All would have been ok, except that I had dropped the TB in a cache and didn’t have the tag number anymore, to correct the situation by placing it back in the cache where it really was.)
