Hello, I have been looking into geocaching for a little while now, and have some questions…….Being a ham op (and being cheap too I guess, goes along with being a ham), I would like some recommendations on which inexpensive gpsr would be good for geocaching AND for running aprs. I have the cheap laptop and a tnc for aprs, just need to get a gpsr to be able to aprs, and since that won’t be running when geocaching, would like to use the same unit. Any suggestions???
Thanx
Also, the other half is interested in geocaching, but is restricted to a wheelchair quite often, are there some decent caches to get her interests up? We live in SE WI, travel to NC WI (Dunn Co) and SC MI (Hillsdale Co). (My parents in WI, her parents in MI). Those would be some of the areas we are looking to start in, but time will tell!
Thanx again….

For wheelchair accessible caches look for ones with a rating for Terrain of “1” … but still read the text to see if they are “True 1’s” which should be accessible from a chair, otherwise they should have beent rated “1.5”.
There are some accessible in SE Wisconsin .. can’t think of any at the moment, other than one of mine: “Another L” (Belgium, WI 53004)
I think EcoRangers might have some in the same general area also, I’m sure they’ll add some ideas on this message board.
I’m afraid aprs means annual percentage rates to me, so I can’t help you there.
However, check out handicaching. You might be able get some help there. Otherwise, asking around to people who’ve cached in the area works. I have a couple that would work for you, if you would happen to be near here:
Fireflies GCMZ98
Royce Dallman GCM4MQ
Team LightningBugs

When I ran a search for a GPSr with APRS capabilities, all I came up with is the Garmin Rino 110 (about $195)or Garmin Rino 120 (about $270) which have APRS-like capabilities. Go to garmin.com type these into search and see what ya think. Other than that I came up empty handed.
Hope that helps!
