Do you know which cache it was.

My mother just called us to see if we were the hiders!

      Nope, not us!! 😯

I think it is a final to a puzzle.

      #1903829

      Maybe GC166HZ?

      #1903830

      Hmmmm…I wonder….

Although GC166HZ was hardly a big bomb-like PVC thing. If memory serves, it was about 3 inches long, on a string, hanging off the bridge. Not what I’d ever think a reasonable person would consider bomb-like.

Though based on the logs….probably so.

It really doesn’t matter what it looked like — someone thought it was a bomb, and the authorities did what they had to do. I was contacted by someone involved in the “removal” of the cache. It just so happens that he is a cacher. But he could not find any marking on the container to indicate it was a geocache (even using the camera mounted on the device that blows up containers). They used his gc account to determine it was most likely a cache, but without markings, how could they be certain?

This is the cache log he submitted — unfortunately, it was deleted by the owner. I think it’s pretty educational.

This cache no longer exists. It was mistaken for a “pipe bomb.” The Brown County Bomb Squad responded to this. Due to no “geocache” markings on the container, we had to assume this was a suspicious object. As a fellow “cacher” & Fire Incident Commander, clearly mark your containers so we do not have to go through the time & expense to investigate & deactivate. I was 99% sure this was a geocache, but will not gamble on the 1% chance I was wrong. The robot could not get a clear camera shot of the container, therefore I could not deem it safe. We used this website to confirm there was a cache in the area (using my account name). The Village of Allouez Parks Director was not aware of any permission given for this cache. Bottom line? It’s destroyed. Captain B.B. (Firehogs), Allouez Fire Department.

He also told me that the cache owner was not in trouble in any way.

Whether or not you agree with what happened — mark your containers!

      Agreed…

Now, how many ammo cans have we all found in parks, still bearing the bright yellow “50 Cal. Ammo” lettering–or worse? 😯

Ok, I looked at the cache log, and you want to know what’s really lame? The responder, who claims he/she didn’t want to take the “1% chance” that it was NOT a geocache…goes and claims a find on the cache!

      Lame, lame, lame.

Too much trouble to grab the GPS, but no trouble at all to up the ol’ find count after blowing this little tube to smithereens.

      Now, now ………..

I stand by my assessment. We label everything above micro-sized. (Ok, I’m sure you might find one we forgot.) Ya, you can put a label on a micro, but how many bison tubes or film cans do YOU all have out there that have one?

This container–as our log shows–was about 2x the size of a film can. Yup, that sure looks like a little bitty bomb…hanging in the middle of the woods (not off the bridge like I said before, that was a different one)…not by any building or population center…

      Holy crap.

Thats why all caches should be magnetic nano’s.

      Just kidding…

      #1903837

Really, the last “find” log should be deleted, as it’s pretty clear the finder didn’t sign the log…

I need to vent on this. To the residents of Irwin and Kalb Streets: This cache had been here for almost two years – in fact, there was another cache in this park before this one. Why did you choose March 15, 2009 to report suspicious behavior at this cache site after so long? Was Wise River Rambler really any more suspicious than me or any other finder on this cache? This cache has been found at all various times on weekends, evenings, and other various times that you’re home and watching across the street at the park. Why not yesterday, or the day before, or when tkks was actually placing the cache? You had plenty of opportunity to call the police and tell them that there were GeoCachers there. Seriously folks. . .

The buck stops here. . .and gets entered into Where's George.

I also talked to the Cache owner today. I was FTF on this cache along with KS9WI, and FRIZZ. We found this cache after 8:00pm, why were the Authorities not called on that day. Cache was there for quite a while.

Oh well, Yes, labeling is a good thing, but come on folks. Common sense here……
