I like the mosquito wipes idea. I’ve looked for them in stores but haven’t found them anywhere yet.

Foreign coins (preferably not Canadian or Mexican) are swag that I’ll usually trade for – even if it’s just a different foreign coin I leave in return. It’s almost like a little virtual trip to that country, holding the coin in my hand.

I rarely find anything worth trading for in caches these days much less something to run back to the car for. In a few of my caches I’ve placed tweezers, emergency blankets and bug repellant (non aerosol).

I am farly new to geocaching and found that there is several people putting gum and garbage in th caches. Its great when i fond a cache, but disapointing when you find soggy gum, rapers, and sticky gooie kid toys. How ever it wont stop me from finding the caches. I do try to clean the cache up and if I can replace iteas that shouldn’t be in there. I love the ideas you all have and look forword to trading for those iteams. Keep caching.

Val leaves her hand made items in caches alot and besides that we leave pathtags is caches that we really enjoy that bring us to a very interested or beautiful area. Usually leave them in caches that are not micro’s. We like finding traditional caches the best.

We come across a lot of caches with old, soggy “__ was here” business cards. It seems like common sense to me to clean these out but the geospouse feels uncomfortable removing things from a cache. I was considering starting to clean up the caches we come across. Thoughts please? What would be appropriate to clear out and what would not be?

By all means, yes. If the cache is salvagable with what you have on hand, you are doing everyone a favor by cleaning it up. If everything is shot, then you might consider a “needs maintenance” log.

Yes, there is a big difference between signature items (wooden nickels, combs, small compasses) and business cards. In addition to the business cards, you can feel free to remove hotel keys, fake credit cards, advertising and other paper goods, and anything else that is inappropriate or likely to be damaged by weather.

I love to find keychains or pathtags and always try to leave something of equal value if I take something. If I forget, I double up at the next cache! So if you see me at the Bash, and have a keychain, I’ll trade ya for one of my new pathtags! I have also made personal trade items in the past with pins that people can wear on their hats, dove necklaces, “trail snake baggies” (I put dog poop bags that come 100 for abuck at the dollar store into a small 2×3 baggie) – amazed at how many positive comments I got on that! I always be sure to put my name on my stuff too, alot of it I put a lot of time and effort into so it is nice if people take the time to comment on it and send me an e-mail.

I like to place mosquito wipes and hand warmers in my caches when they will fit, in that I think they would come in handy at their locations. In one of my local caches, I have placed sealed sets of prints of local landmarks that I created quite a while ago, and have quit selling. They seem to be popular.

Rarely trade items but of the few I have taken, small tape measure (comes in handy a lot of times), small mesh bag (I use it as a gear bag to keep stuff organized) and of all things, a small hand garden spade (the one I had just recently broke). I actually had to travel back to my vehicle to get something to trade with.

I like the unusual and enjoy checking it out but often it’s the same old stuff.
