Take a look and let me know how you would be tactful in writing to this person, or would you…..
03/06/2007 at 12:38 am #1870904😕 I think I’m missing something. What am I supposed to be looking at?
03/06/2007 at 12:39 am #1870905which one of the log are you talking about???
03/06/2007 at 12:42 am #1870906Is this another trick question or am I missing something here?? Which log are you talking about?
03/06/2007 at 1:05 am #1870907Think I am missing something as well. Please elaborate.

03/06/2007 at 1:25 am #1870908not 100% sure either what your getting at … but the “detective” in me wants to take a guess …
I see you rate your cache as a 2.5 / 2.5 … but yet the 2/6/07 finder indicates “they drove right up to it” … so are you trying to tell them they drove their car where the shouldn’t have? I that’s what this is about … I’d just leave it, the damage is done and maybe they couldn’t tell where parking ended and trail/grass started, due to snow cover.
Did I get it right? Do I win anything?
03/06/2007 at 2:10 am #1870909are you talking about the person that didn’t write a log in the book at the cache?

That could be. I looked at his profile and cache history and the cache in question was his 1st find, at least on that account name. If it is this one write and congratulate him on the find and extend a hand to answer any questions he may have.
If it was the drive up is it possible it was on a snowmobile? Looks like a public access area along that river or creek which may have a trail nearby.

He’s a newbie, give him a break. I would send him a friendly note asking him to return to the site and sign the book. I might explain to him that that is normally the way it is done.

Oh so sorry.
I was referring to this post (1/16/2007) and meant to write the date on OP. I don’t check logs against the book but this person blatantly telling me they did not sign the log. Unfortunately I’m at odds on this and not to sure what my own stance is. Was wondering how others felt and their input.

No this was not about you. Their were already tracks that go far and there is no set parking place there other than not in the creek.
[/quote]03/06/2007 at 11:58 am #1870914I do not think it’s a big deal. One of the local DNR land managers told me that he does go out and finds caches, but does not sign the log book or log them on GS, for whatever reasons I don’t know. On some of mine I have found that there are many who sign the log book but do not log them.
03/06/2007 at 12:37 pm #1870915I guess I’m not a purest as with the exception of two of my puzzle caches, I could care less if my logbooks are signed or not.
Who is someone hurting if they fake a find; not me. I really don’t get people who check their logbooks against the on-line smiles……but I guess if doing so adds to someones enjoyment of this game, power to em’. Personally I geocache for fun not to practice my book keeping skills; I have work for that.
03/06/2007 at 1:35 pm #1870916I have to throw my two cents into this discussion.
I do not sign the logs in the caches. For several reasons.
1. Their are not permanent. The commuter one is.
2. Sometimes the log is wet, or gets wet. Unreadable.
3. When the cache is stolen or archived, or the log is full, where does the log go? I throw mine out.
4. Does it really matter?
5. Almost forgot – I have other cachers forge my name! When out caching with Honeybunnies, Wheezer, Miata, Giz, Astro D, etc – they have certainly all signed my name more often than I have! Though occassionally I return the favor.BTW, I actually do sign some logs. The really special ones. Like #$%^#@$# Baldwin, down in Illinois. Or 04145_Cram Id. Or an FTF if I’m aware of that.
And another BTW – want to know where such and such a cache is? I can generally tell you, since I’ve been there.
Veni, vidi, sivi!

Loosely translated: I came, I saw, I had Miata sign the log! 😈
