Could somebody explain what the travel bug “preference” status field is?

It looks like there are two options for this: the bug is collectible, or the bug is not collectible, which are set from the edit details page.

So what’s the thinking here? That some owners release a bug to travel but don’t mind if someone makes it part of their collection, so now they can note that on the bug page? Wouldn’t you assume instead that every bug that has a tracking record and an owner is meant to be NOT collectible? I’m not talking about unactivated bugs for prizes and whatnot, this is a field on the tracking page for activated bugs that are already owned.

    😕

I think the only thing that field does is disallow anything but “discovered” logs by anyone but the owner.

The original idea was to allow someone to have a group of discover only TB and coins that could be moved to an event in one operation, but it doesn’t look like it works that way.

I recently pulled a “coin” from a cache that was kinda clever. The owner of the coin has posted a image of what the coin looks like in the trackable area…. but upon retrieving it… it’s a circle of wood roughly twice the size of the original with copies of the coin adhered to each side along with its tracking number etc. See two things in this:

    1. It’s size being larger makes it something that is say a lil bulkier so noone is going to hang on to it and keep it.

    2. He gets to keep his original coin which he is pretty proud of BUT he still gets to let it travel too…

For me I would have liked to seen the original cause it was a cool coin… but I understand his motives and I’ll happily move on his wood replica 🙂

Geocoin copies or “proxies” are somewhat common. Some people loudly complain about them. I’m happy to find anything in a cache, so I’m ok with them.

I really like the idea of the wood replica. I just released my first coin today and hoping it travels but from what I have already seen with my bugs a bit skeptical.

We’ve done the photo copy of a geocoin in a few of our caches, so that cachers could claim the coin for finding the cache. Funny though, that even the photo copies have disappeared over time. 😕

I’m glad to see some intuitive ideas. A few days after we found out first TB I was excited and purchased four with various missions. One was mailed to a friend but the envelope tore and it disappeared. She replaced it with one of her own and dropped it off in Europe for me but the adoption links she’s sent haven’t worked and I’ve just gotten a generic response from tech support. Don’t want to keep bugging her.

Of the other two I’ve launched neither has been picked up which is surprising because one was put into a very active cache (I’m going to stop soon and see if it’s still there or if it’s missing-other TBs have been picked up from that cache since). The other was put into a West Bend Cache Bash cache Friday evening so I was also surprised to see it not moving yet.

I’m wondering if I should even bother with the final TB I still have.
