Team Badger will be hosting an event this Saturday at Kettle Moraine South. We will be meeting at 8 AM in the parking area for Dew it for Fun (GCH1VE).
    N42 56.332 W88 27.704
There are several challenging hikes and hides nearby. The tentitive itinerary includes Dew it for Fun, Survival in a Can, Tool Time 2, Beyond Paradise, and Your Kiln Me Here. Join us for one or for all.
I would again like to emphasize that Team Badger is open to anyone interesting in joining us. Your only requirement is a sense of adventure, team spirit, and willingness to have a great time.
After the big turn out we experienced at Devil lake, we have decided to make this an event. So come join the fun, and walk the trails with us. And there may even be a Chili Cheese Dog for lunch nearby.
    See you there!

Just a heads up… the road that is recommended parking for “Dew It For Fun” has a gate across it that was closed when I did the cache. I had to park on the main road. It’s only side-of-the-road parking at those coordinates, anyway. Perhaps a diferent choice would work better for your meeting spot?

It’s a beautiful area, though. ENJOY!!

I have already done a couple of the caches but just hiking with Team Badger should be the best part.
Chili Cheese Dogs in Eagle is tough to pass up.

Bummer you selected the “Sub Chase” weekend to do these.

Well I won’t be going near any chili cheese dogs, but I will be there for the team and the hunts! Looking forward to another funfilled day. Not sure yet, but BoyBug may be joining the team that day. See you Saturday.

Sounds great to me! We just did “You’re Kiln Me Here” a couple weeks ago, but the others are on our “to-do” list.
Do you plan to do them in the order listed above?

So now all that remains is to convince Mrs. OuttaHand that we can physically do four Kettle Moraine caches and still have enough energy left to go to our league bowling that night!

Don’t forget A Field of Pines and A Rolling Stone Gathers No Moss. Both are in the immediate area and nice hides. They, along with Dew It for Fun were the first caches we did on a beautiful Sunday afternoon this past March.

    ***UPDATE***
It seems our event has been denied. The Groundspeak guidelines state:
…an event cache should not be set up for the sole purpose of drawing together cachers for an organized hunt of another cache or caches.
So we will not be having an event cache, however Team Badger will be hiding our traditional mission accomplished cache somewhere nearby. At every outing Team Badger goes on, we place a cache to commemorate the mission and the meeting of friends. So although there won’t be an event to log, there will still be a bonus cache to find.
As far as the itinerary goes, Dew it for Fun will likely be the first cache attempted. From there we will go with a group concensus. Nothing is ever strictly regimented when it comes to the Team. We are very flexible and mostly go with the flow. The Team concept seems to bring out the best in everyone, so feel free to come out and join us for as many or as few caches as you’d like.

So, if I’m reading you right, you’re just saying we will not get a “find” for the event itself. Is that right? You’re still gathering same time & place to do the same caches?

I got the ‘OK’ from Mrs.OuttaHand so it looks like we’re in.

Now I know what the politicians mean when they say “more of the same”.
At some point good common judgement needs to come into play in regard to interpreting the rules. Since a lunch was planned (Chili Cheese Dogs) and the group was meeting in a parking area, it really is no different then all of the other events that happen in the state. The fact that I did not stuff some pancakes into my mouth before going caching should not disqualify this as an event.
Lets either ban all events or admit that they are about a group getting together to go caching. Whether they are existing caches or temporaries should make no difference at all.
Often the event temporaries do not pass the requirements for a “real” cache anyway, should all of these be banned too?
We all do this for fun and it seems that the “rules” lately are to discourage the fun.

Some may not like this opinion but it does not diminish my right to have one.

So what if “we” were to put a tupperware container with a log book on the hood of the first car to arrive? Now there’s a temporary “event cache” that can be searched for and logged. It would be just as valid a cache as the ones at any other event cache that don’t strictly meet the guidelines of a regular cache; and it would allow this event to be ‘qualified’.
It doesn’t really matter to me that much. I agree that it’s a silly/stupid ruling, but it doesn’t bother me a lot. While I would like to get another find for the event itself, I am more looking forward to meeting some fellow cachers and finally getting to those caches that have been on my ‘to-do’ list for quite some time.

Nicely put Jeff! I went to an event in Chicago a few months ago where we met at a restraunt, ate breakfast, signed a logbook and got some door prizes. They even had a cache event travel bug that we got to log (if we found it). There were no temporary hides. We were given a list of area caches to seek out. Some were old caches, some were new ones that had been released that morning. Since they were all permanent caches, what makes that any different than what the Commander was trying to set up here? I’m with you on your opinion!
When a group of cachers sign up to go to a specific location to pick up specific caches, on a specific date, at a specific time…hhmmmm…sounds an aweful lot like and event to me but then I’m not an admin…I’m just a watergirl.
In any case, I will be bringing a new travel bug that day. It will be called the “Unevent Event Bug”…not sure what it will be yet, but everyone that is there will get to pick it up and drop it at the first cache we go to. I’ll release it that morning. We may not get an event, but we’ll have a TB out of it!

I was just looking around at some of the events going on…there is an event happening soon where you don’t have to do anything but show up and eat a couple of meals and you get 4 finds out of the deal. Unless I’m reading the page wrong, there are no caches being hidden, there aren’t even any being searched out. All one has to do to claim 4 finds is show up, eat some food and find some travel bugs. So my question is this: how does this qualify as an event?

I must admit that I’m the one that archived this event cache. I didn’t want to do it, but the geocaching.com / groundspeak guidelines *SPECIFICALLY* address this type of gathering.

Now, don’t loose heart, for there is a HUGE discussion regards to “Exactly What Is An Event Cache?” going on between the powers that be at Groundspeak and the reviewers. Evidently they realize that there is an issue with how event caches are now approved.

I will bring your issues to that discussion, as I tend to agree with you that this probably *SHOULD* be listable as an event.
