    From Geocaching.com-

    “Event Caches

Event caches are gatherings for geocachers by geocachers to discuss geocaching. After the event has passed, the event cache is archived. While a music concert, a garage sale, a ham radio field day or an orienteering event might be of interest to a large percentage of geocachers, such events are not suitable for submission as event caches because the primary focus of these events is not geocaching and the primary attendees are not geocachers. In addition, an event cache should not be set up for the sole purpose of drawing together cachers for an organized hunt of another cache or caches. Such group hunts are best organized using the forums or an email distribution list.

For geocaching events that involve several components, such as a day-long group cache hunt that also involves a seminar and dinner, only a single event cache covering all components should be submitted.”

Don’t you guys get it? You are not supposed to conduct geocaching at an event cache!

So, why not resubmit the event, making it a geocachers breakfast .. followed by the pursue of the KM area ..

It is all in how it is written!

Just call it “The Inaugural Kettle Moraine Area geocaching Gear and Methods Meet”. Its primary purpose is to gather geocachers and allow them to compare the gear and methods used by other local geocachers so that we all may learn what is, and is not, working well for other geocachers.
Oh — and if we happen to go out in search of some of the local caches, just to SEE how these practices and gear actually work in action, well that’s just a bonus.
We’re all in agreement that this is, and should be “allowed” to be, a geocaching event. I think it comes down to re-wording it in such a way that it meets the specific rules.

The purpose of making it an event was to invite and attract some new people to possibly get out and do some geocaching with Team Badger.
You will find that Team Badger will show rain or shine – event or no event. It has always been about the fun of sharing stories, ideas and the thrill of the hunt with others.
There really isn’t a need to figure out a way to get around the rules. The need is for the rules to understand what geocachers want out of it.
If this was just a quest for another cache number, I would have been against it as an event. Instead it is about what geocaching should be about, people helping people learn about geocaching and what a great group of people it includes.
Regardless of what groundspeak or anyone else thinks – this is an EVENT.

Again, it is all in how it is written. I thought OuttaHand’s suggestions probably answer geocaching.com’s definitition but also better describes what the group really does.

And that was exactly my point. I heartily agree it’s not about the numbers. It’s all about meeting other cachers and having some good fun!
But I guess at some point, it becomes a matter of principle. Why do other meetings qualify as an “event” when this one does not? In priciple, it’s the same thing!
So if we can get it approved as an “event” by renaming it, there is a sort of moral victory.

Thanks OuttaHand. You & I understand each other, I just hope the others can see what we are trying to say.

We are not saying “to go against” the powers that be. We are not saying “to fight” for this. Rather, we are trying to bridge both into the understanding that it is all in how it is written!

I guess I have worked in government too long and have had to figure out the system ..

BINGO!! I’m not suggesting we “slide it by” them; or take an attitude of “he-he — we foolded ’em on this one!”
I just think this is as much a caching event as any other and should be treated as such. And if that can happen by simply re-wording something, so be it.

Getting back on the subject at hand, I just want to remind everyone that this is hunting season and the Kettle Morraine is public hunting grounds.

I know Bob could easily be mistaken for a wild animal, so the rest of you should dress appropriately.

    HELP!!! HELP!!! HELP!!! HELP!!!
Something has popped up that Mrs.OuttaHand needs to do at 8am on Saturday. And since I can’t drive, I’m left with no way to get to the meeting spot at 8am.
So I’m hoping someone can lend a hand somehow. If one of you could e-mail me with a cel phone #, then we could call you Saturday morning when we get up to the area and find out where you’re all at. Could meet you all at cache #2 or #3 or so.
OR — if any of you happen to be coming thru Elkhorn on the way to the site, maybe you could pick me up?
Please post with any ideas that might get my sorry, non-driving butt to the fun.
    Thanks!

After reading some of the members opinions, I initially had two thoughts. First, I didn’t agree that changing the wording, or including a breakfast, lunch, or dinner, just to pass the “guidelines” was in keeping to the spirit of our Team concept. We fully intend to get together specifically to seek difficult caches as a Team. That is, and will continue to be our main purpose for these outings. Any way you want to sugar coat it, there it is.
Then my second thought was I may be holding to a principle, albeit stubbornly, to the detriment of others. A simple change of some wording, not a lot to ask, right?
Then suddenly it came to me. Although it hasn’t been approved yet, I’m sticking my neck out yet again and announcing Saturdays newest event:

Groundspeak Event Policy Discussion by Team Badger

Join us for a lively discussion of current Groundspeak policies, including event caches, virtuals caches, and other various other topics of interest. The meeting place for this event will be a parking area off CTY HWY ZZ near the Scuppernong Hiking Trails. The discussions will continue along some of the more difficult trails nearby. Please bring your own drinks, snacks, etc. You may also wish to bring a lunch, or join some of us in nearby Eagle for a famous WizBit Chili Cheese Dog. The discussions will continue thru the afternoon, and we may even find ourselves near some of the more difficult caches in the area. Those wishing to pause the conversations, long enough to sign into any logbooks we may find along the way, are encouraged to do so. Team Badger is looking forward to hearing your opinions on the subjects, and welcomes anyone who wishes to join us.

    ***ATTENTION***
Please note the new parking area.

(thanks for the heads up subterranean)

I hope to see everyone there.

Sounds like an opportunity for Blaze Orange Geocaching gear!

OK, Policy is policy. It seems Team Badger will NOT be hosting an event Saturday. We will however be meeting same place, same time. And yes, Groundspeak Event Policy will still be discussed.

    *********DISCLAIMER*********

(Following statements made with tongue firmly planted in cheek)

Since this discussion is not sanctioned, it may be considered treason by some. Those weak of heart should consider other less dangerous groups to associate with. For those willing to live on the razor’s edge, Team Badger welcomes all new recruits.

On a side note, while it’s true I have at times been mistaken for a wild animal, the important difference being this animal may shoot back.

    Hope to see everyone there.
