Hello. I am Brian from Team Black-Cat. TBC is myself, my wife and our two kids. We’ve always enjoyed family outings including camping and weekend road trips. Although we haven’t done as much camping lately, road trips have become a little more frequent and are planned with geocaching in mind.

My family gave me a Garmin eTrex as a gift in 2006. Since I’m a gadget junkie, I really liked it, but I had a hard time finding a real use for it. An Internet search kept suggesting geocaching, which I was only vaguely aware of. I created an account and found that there was a cache hidden within walking distance of our house. I spent a few hours reading logs and finding out where else these things were hidden. We went out the next day and spent about a half hour finding a micro in a gazebo. At the same time, we found what seemed like a whole new world.

Meeting other cachers has become one of the most enjoyable facets of geocaching. It’s funny that a “fringe” activity can be so social. It is this aspect that has driven my passion for geocaching. I take every opportunity to meet and get to know other cachers.

When an issue is brought to my attention, I will usually not be the first to offer an opinion. Only when I’m sure that I am informed enough will I take a stand. While I may have a strong opinion of an issue, I will only defend that opinion until it becomes counterproductive to do so. At that time I would get behind and strongly defend the decisions of the BOD. This seems to be a common but necessary trait of a BOD member.

Since I am not privy to the inner workings of the BOD, I am not currently aware of any “pressing” issues. The WGA has done a great job of planning and hosting the picnic and campout each year, as well as a WGA branded CITO event. I would like to see the WGA volunteer resources to more local social events. A meet and greet event doesn’t need hundreds of attendees to be worthy of WGA attention. While this may not be the most pressing issue faced by the BOD, I think it would go a long way in increasing and solidifying membership if we made this a higher priority.

In short, I think that being in contact with many cachers across the state allows me to know what is important to them at the moment. While some of these concerns may not need the attention of the WGA board, they will certainly affect my opinions and actions.

Thanks you for considering me as a nominee. You all have a difficult decision to make as any of the current nominees are more than worthy. I look forward to the outcome of the election.
