I knwo you are all set for cables and such, but what software or format are you using?? GSAK??
05/07/2008 at 10:35 pm #1888949yup….always use GSAK, 🙂

I used the same. I guess the main point is that it is a GPX file, isn’t it?
There are usually also PDA uploads but I don’t do that so I’m not aware of that file format.
05/09/2008 at 8:01 am #1888952I tried the regular version but not the expert. I would like to try the one that Magellan has…..but I have enought going on and I am confused enough with what I have! I don’t mind change…. just don’t want to have to pay for it! LOL 😆
05/09/2008 at 1:40 pm #1888953Now that I have the Colorado, I just use pocket queries, and dump them right in. I don’t think I’ve loaded GSAK in weeks….It is making me lazy….
05/09/2008 at 2:31 pm #1888954Yes, we use the .gpx format.
For the PDA’s, all the caches will be in the “to do” list. You see a list of caches. When you look at he details for any particular one, you will get all the info. You can then “check” the box indicating your find. This works for Palm, but I don’t know if we have PDA product for the Pocket PC crowd.

Brian, you’re so old skool… put down the stone tablet and chisel. 🙂 I don’t think we’ve had a todo list file for at least the last two events? (Although we could make such a file if there is interest.) We will have Palm PDAs with the cache information in Cachemate and can “beam” the info to your Palm PDA.
Regardless of what GPS unit or PDA you own, we will do our best to get it loaded with the cache information. If you have some funky technology or are some sort of control freak who wants to manipulate the data before using it, we can give you the raw GPX file (copy it to a memory card or memory stick) the day of the event.

GSAK ???
🙂
05/19/2008 at 9:10 pm #1888957I know there are only two people at the event who care about this but it was driving me nuts…..
To load GPX files on the Garmin Colorado from GSAK, you need a special GSAK macro especially for it. No wonder we couldn’t get it working.
But thanks for all the efforts:) I just focused on the perms more is all:)

We will work on this for the next WGA event. If you don’t mind, please send us your Colorado unit so we can do some testing to ensure we have the procedure right. Send it to:
WGA Headquarters
3150 S. 80th St.
Milwaukee, WI 53219Seriously, we will make sure that we have this figured out for next time, as there will probably be more than 2 of them.
Also, we discovered that one of the laptops we used on Saturday was set up to download the temporary cache waypoints without the special geocache waypoint symbol. This was frustrating a number of people and causing others to report that the cache coordinates weren’t downloaded to them (they were, but you had to know how/where to look for them). Sorry for the confusion and it won’t happen again…
05/19/2008 at 10:36 pm #1888959Another request – new permanent caches have more digits in their ID than many GPSrs can handle. Perhaps the GPX file could drop the “GC” for any official geocaches that are in the database? Thanks.
05/20/2008 at 2:07 pm #1888960Hey don’t worry about me!:) I wasn’t complaining, I was just letting Cheesehead Dave know why we couldn’t get it to work.
Knowing it is a newer unit, I should have made sure I was up to date on the software for it. I don’t expect you guys to bend over backwards and know how every unit works or connects, that was on me to have figured out.
The fact that Dave was willing to try 4-5 different times with a few different configurations, was more than could have been asked for. You guys did a top notch job with everything and like I said…..you won’t hear me complaining:)
