I think some one should place a regular cache in the state park where the camp out is and let every one log it as many times as they want for each temp they find and after about 2 weeks disable it
04/25/2005 at 1:14 pm #1758455We left behind some regular caches at past events. This will not be an option this year. We’ve promised the Park Manager that ALL geocaches would be removed at the end of the weekend.
04/25/2005 at 10:56 pm #1758456THAT IS WHY I SAID disable it after the event is done
you know remove it at the end of the weekend and disable it after a week or so
so every one hes time to log in all there temp find !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!04/25/2005 at 11:48 pm #1758457quote:

The staff of geocaching.com has also displayed a negative attitude as to any new types of temporary cache logging.
It has been suggested by some that temporary caches should not be logged as a find on the geocaching.com website. The Wisconsin Geocaching Association board members have assumed a NEUTRAL opinion on this subject and it has been said that each cacher can and should decide on his or her own as to if they will in the future log this type of cache or not.
Personally, I have never logged a temporary cache. I could not care less as to what anyone else chooses to do, as long as their find count is a true indication of how many caches they have found.
04/26/2005 at 1:34 am #1758458Shrek, I believe this topic has been covered rather extensively in this thread. I just don’t see any of this happening.
Cathunter, The WGA Board as a whole has assumed a NUETRAL position. Many members (myself included) have not.

That’s the problem with board members sometimes. They have an opinion on a subject but keep it to themselves. It would really be a shame if someone got shunned for expressing their feelings around here.
04/26/2005 at 6:07 am #1758461I am not sure that the board members have assumed a neutral position… Some of us are waiting to see the fruits of the effort at the Missouri event or at Asian Breakfast.
So far, Asian breakfast is showing that this effort is only confusing the matter. Some cachers prefer the old method because they feel Temps are not the same as permanant caches and they don’t want to confuse them. So there is some resistance to change. Some board members have stronger opinions on the matter than others. There is a seperate thread on the Board page showing mixed opinions.
The more I see of this issue, the more likely I am inclined to go with the “No change” group.
tb04/26/2005 at 11:59 am #1758462I understand wanting to have another cache that would serve as a place to log temps…but the DNR/Park officials will have none of it. We are working hard to promote healthy relationships with the DNR, and any permanent cache, disabled or not, would be a violation of our agreement.
As far as I am concerned, the board is putting this event on for our membership…let us choose to do it in the way we feel best…and we will let you hold your event in the way that you choose best. If at an event you host you choose to have a permanent cache to log temps…then fine. It is just not happening at this one.
Thanks for all of the feedback.

I could see how it might be taken that way.
04/26/2005 at 5:41 pm #1758465Let’s all calm down a little bit.
I don’t want to have to learn how to lock-out a thread.

I knew that was coming and should’ve headed it off at the pass… but my opinion has been clear from the begining. I’m not gonna open this can of worms again. If you want to know what I think, email me and I’ll tell you, or search the forums and find out. I’m sure many of the board members are willing to share their thoughts if asked. We don’t, however, want to fan the flames of a dying fire.
PS That wasn’t meant to be directed at you, Cathunter. Just general thoughts on the subject.

Co-conspirator to make the world a better place…04/26/2005 at 11:36 pm #1758467My comment was not in regards to the subject of temp hides in particular, but in general.
Sometimes the forums are reminicent of working at a job where the management never provides input. It can be an awfully lonely place at times.
I am thankful for those who choose to be vocal, even if none of us can agree.

The opinion of the individuals on the board are no less or more important than any other geocacher.
To suggest there is a collective board opinion would also be wrong. Geocaching is too many different things to too many different people to come up with a ‘rule for every occasion’.
In short, the purpose of the WGA is to facilitate, communicate and sometimes provide gentle persuasion, but not to dictate. If the later was true, I’d be the first to lead a revolt.
