“Temporarily” disabled caches? – Wisconsin Geocaching Association

It’s come to my attention that we have lots of caches that are “temporarily disabled” for an excessive amount of a time. There are approximately 27 of these forgotten caches.
The feature to Temp Disable a cache is so that a cache owner can make necessary repairs and then put it back into service. Some of these caches have been “temporarily disabled” for over a year. If a cache owner chooses not to fix the cache, it should be archived and the cache container removed.

In an effort to clean up the search pages I’ll be archiving a lot of these caches. Please don’t be offended if you own one of these caches and have it archived. I’m just trying to clean up the pages and eliminate potential confusion.

Some of the cache pages will probably be archived as they are obviously missing. Other caches have been disabled with no reason mentioned in the logs. These cachers will receive an email asking the status of the cache.

I can easily “unarchive” the cache page once a cacher puts it back into service. Until then, I really don’t see why the search pages should be littered with these disabled caches.

Here is a list of some of the caches that have been disabled/forgotten for an excessive period of time:
Hopefully a lot of these great hides will be fixed and unarchived.

Unfortunatley, all but one of these caches are now archived.

If you own one of them and decide to put it back into service, send me an email so I can un-archive it.
