    yah know what….

Benchmarks are calculated in you stats as finds but do not add to your total. that might even be a thing to push.

If a temp is hidden by someone else and I found it, I would like to keep track of it. If you are going to approach groundspeak, maybe go that way.

    Geocaches
    Benchmarks
    Temps

Three different counts on your stats. If you get tons of temps. You have had quite a few really busy days. You can also keep track of the cool ones.

Last autumn we attended our first cache event at Navarino. We were told by those running it to multi log in order to get credit for all the temp caches the R & R WAnderers had worked so hard to put together for us. They did a terrific job and in no way did any of those caches not meet regular caching guidelines. We did as we were told.

By the end of the event, Navarino Tim told us that in order to have every cache hidden at the event, you would have had to walk 25 miles. Well, we calculated it to be more like 18, but the fact is, WE DID IT. We worked hard to get those caches. Lander lost 4 toenails and had blisters on her blisters, had several asthma attacks, and ended up spending 3 weeks in bed recuperating her health. No way we would have done all that if we knew they weren’t going to count anyway.

To me, a cache is a cache. It takes time and planning to hide, and time and planning to find. I don’t see that a temp is any different from a permanent. If it is, I’m sure we’ll just spend our days going after the “legal” caches and not attending events any more. Case in point as was mentioned in another thread – Rock Island. The PTB won’t allow any more permanent caches to be placed there. Ergo, if you already have them all, why are you going to keep attending year after year just to revisit those same ones which you can’t relog? I think attendance at a lot of events will drop as members opt instead for just playing on their own so their finds count..

Just my humble opinion. Not asking anyone to agree.

It seems to me as though Groundspeak made their decision about this topic a long time ago when they removed the “found” option from events and added the “attended” logging option to the event page. For some reason Wisconsin decided that it was OK to continue the practice by logging multiple “attended” logs. Some question why to do it this way because it “seems stupid”. Well yeah, it is supposed to seem stupid because it is not what Groundspeak intended. We are the only state that does it this way and the rest of the country continues to question why we do this.

Finally, the powers that be on the WGA Board have taken a stand and said they are not allowing it at their events (both of them) and we are now having people complain that it is not right or fair. If you don’t like it, organize events outside of the campout and picnic where you can make your own logging rules.

My opinion is that the purpose of WGA events is to bring people together to share their stories and experiences and to meet and socialize with each other for an afternoon. It is pretty hard to do that when everybody is off in the forest all day long looking for 50+ extra smileys by days end.

I applaud the WGA’s decision and look forward to the socializing aspect of their events.

Well, I think the “found” got changed to “attended” because it seemed rather stupid to say you “found” and event.

Logging temps or not I don’t care, I was just thinking that this seems a more likely reason as to why it was changed…. but I could be wrong.

To me, a cache is a cache.

How would you log a cache listed on Navicache or Terracaching on GC? It’s not possible unless they are listed on GC. Temp caches are not listed on GC.

Actually it has been discussed that if you are from out of town you may just not be able to “find” an event 😳

Like the story of the cacher who went to the wrong coffee shop as there were many in the area…

Attended makes much more sense but in some cases it may be hard to “find” these event locations. What saved me on one was having the coordinates because the street maps and navigation were wrong. It said turn right and it was actually a left turn through a round-a-bout. I followed the coordinates instead. 😀

Back in the day…..when you logged a “found it” for attending an event rather than “attended” since “attended” was not on option, whoever hosted the event never got to claim a smilie for hosting the event since it was taboo to log a “found it” for your own cache/event!

Now, with the “attended” log, the event host is welcomed to earn a smilie by claiming an “attended” log, since they did in fact attend their own event. Tami

You know, I never knew this. I never logged an attended for the event I hosted….

Another GREY area, you shouldnt have to log your event as attended, it allready shows up in your stats in the cache hidden area, there it shows the events that you hosted.

I don’t understand why some are so concerned over something so meaningless.

Then why log them if they are meaningless?

BECAUSE I FOUND THEM WITH THE USE OF A GPSr.

So finding a cache without a GPS shouldn’t count?

Here’s a thought for the next WGA event. Make all Perm. caches Premium. That makes a seperation right there. Some can, some can’t. That’s fair right? The choice had been made for you. That’s what’s being done now. You wan’t a smiley, you need to pay. You want a ticket, go find a temp.

This is getting tiring. No one stopped you from looking for temps. No one withheld information regarding the drawing. You made the choice.

No the choice is made for us by only giving tickets for temp caches. That decreases my chances in a drawing where I don’t like temps because I choose to go after ones I can get credit for in the same area! This is a simple fix… no more temps at events or at least no extra tickets for anybody.
