On a three day mini vacation we went to Door County for the first time. Out of 17 caches hunted we had one DNF. Between Washington Island and both the Green Bay and the Lake Michigan sides, the time we had was terrific. All of the views and the different parks and forest that we visited made this vacation one to remember. I highly recommend Door County to everyone. I just wanted to make a post here to show you our gratitude for all the people who placed caches in Door County to show us areas that normally would not be seen.
THANK YOU
VEGAS GAMBLERS09/21/2006 at 1:20 am #1765893We couldn’t agree more. One of our favorite memories from caching after the campout was Cana Island. Did you happen to get there?
~CB09/21/2006 at 4:12 am #1765894Yep, Cana Island was great. We were on so many back roads and in many unknown parks it was wonderful.
09/21/2006 at 1:40 pm #1765895The wife and I honneymooned in Door county and have been going back about every other year sincce then. We would love to move there, but finding work in the Door is tough.
I can’t wait to cache there this fall fianlly.
If ever you find yourself planning a trip there and need a place to stay. We highly recomend “The Chanticlear” B&B in Sturgron Bay. In the summer you will need to make your reservations 12 months in advance, but fall and winter youwill only need a few months.
Also, while in Sturgeon Bay, stop by the jewelry store in “The Houle House”. This was my grandparents old house. My grandfather built this place as well as dozens of other houses in Sturgeon Bay, Egg Harbor and Fish Creek. The jewelry there is all custom made one off stuff. Expensive, but unique. the jewler there is VERY talented!
My family left the area for Kenosha back in the 1930’s. Why, I don’t know. Given the choice, Door county is a no-brainer. Maybe the depression forced them out.

Let’s keep how great Door County is to ourselves. There’s enough traffic up there as it is!
09/22/2006 at 7:03 pm #1765897I took a mini vacation with my family up in Door County over Labor Day weekend and had a blast. My son and I cached as much as we could with out irritating my wife, who is not into caching at all. There are still many caches left for us to find the next time we get a chance to go back. We stayed in Baileys Harbor and found out quickly that the short time we were there was not enough to explore the area. I can’t wait to go back and maybe I can get my wife a little more on board with the caching by then. 😀
