Here we go folks.. The beast has a history of making predictions involving Wisconsin geocaching with amazing accuracy. Let’s see how these fare at year’s end:
1. We will see 1500 newbies join us in the coming year.
2. The number of caches in the state will grow to 2,000 plus.
3. Jeff Thorson will log his 1300th cache.
4. Geotrippers will match jthorson’s 1300.
5. PharmTeam, wzbt03 and Socko will log their 1000th
6. Natloh2 and T&tb will log their 800th.
7. there will be another 150 cachers to log their 100th cache.
8. Geoffnsara, Folk Trakers, Caching Out and CatHunter will each log their 700th cache.
9. The Lil’ Otter will add 6 States [ND, SD, MT, CO, KA, NB] and log her 3000th find.
10. Wisconsin Breakfast events will reach 2 per month before the end of the year.
11. Breakfast event attendance will reach 100+
12. A new event will hit the scene, involving placing caches.[This message has been edited by Trudy & the beast (edited 01-02-2004).]

You are on track. Add the WGA Picnic and the WGA camp out to your 2004 calendar and you will surely go over the top.

Socko
I haven’t ruled this out, and this would satisfy my prediction.
This would be a stellar achievement with each of your teammates on a different schedule. Go get ‘m Socko.

(chuckles)I had to post about this one.. even though those states are closer to me.. I doubt if I’ll get west of the Mississippi often.. I love historical areas and love roaming around the eastern states the most. So my prediction of what I might do this year would be:
To head to:
[Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia]And I’ve still not found a cache in Iowa, Missouri or Arkansas… but would love to adventure to those states as well..
I’ve been to all of these states before but will totally enjoy returning and seeing them through geocaching eyes.
The only States that I have never been to are Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska and Hawaii. So even before I found geocaching.. I was a traveling nut (grins)
But then again.. I’d really love to return to every state I’ve been caching in already.. they were so amazing to explore and discover all those back roads. I’m atleast going to try to break away this winter and head down south to the warmth again..

12/31/2004 at 3:48 pm #1748201I’m dying to find out how The Beast did with his predictions for this year, and what his predictions for 2005 bring!

12/31/2004 at 10:56 pm #1748202Glad to report I can contribute one to the 150 you predicted in #7. I hit #100 in March.
I, too, am curious to see what kind of predictions will come forth for the upcoming 2005 !
01/01/2005 at 2:11 pm #1748203#11 came true at the Mother of All Breakfasts by a longshot.
01/01/2005 at 4:26 pm #1748204Well, if there are no volunteers to evaluate this set of predictions, I will have to do it myself

Using the beast’s version of linear algebra, it is evident that we have fallen short of this mark. Best estimates but this number between 900 and 1100. The beast was wrong.

2. The number of caches in the state will grow to 2,000 plus.
See number 1 above. Best estimates put this number between 1800 and 1900. The beast was wrong.
quote:
3. Jeff Thorson will log his 1300th cache.
Jeff logged his 1300th, 1400th and 1500th. The beast was right.
quote:
4. Geotrippers will match jthorson’s 1300.
Geotrippers not only mathced Jeff’s 1300th, but his 1400th and 1500th as well. The beast was right.
quote:
5. PharmTeam, wzbt03 and Socko will log their 1000th
PharmTeam and wzbt03 both logged their 1000th finds, witnesses say that Socko capped the 1K mark sometime around midyearbut but he stopped logging any finds at all sometime in April. That would make the beast’s prediction wrong.
quote:
6. Natloh2 and T&tb will log their 800th.
Slam dunk. The beast was right.
quote:
7. there will be another 150 cachers to log their 100th cache.
I don’t have a firm number on the number of cachers above the 100 mark at the start of the year, wzbt03 might agree it was no more than a score or two. At year’s end there were over 225. This means that there were close to 200 to make that mark during 2004. The beast was right.
quote:
8. Geoffnsara, Folk Trakers, Caching Out and CatHunter will each log their 700th cache.
Should have been another slam dunk but somebody took an extended break from caching, and as a result the beast was wrong
quote:
9. The Lil’ Otter will add 6 States [ND, SD, MT, CO, KA, NB] and log her 3000th find.
She logged her 3000th cache, but didn’t add any states. The beast was wrong
quote:
10. Wisconsin Breakfast events will reach 2 per month before the end of the year.
With the increasing difficulty finding places that can seat the numbers we have been bringing in, the number of breakfasts has actually fallen off. We are going to have to do something about that. Two breakfasts in one month – See The Great Sub Chase, October 2004. The beast was right
quote:
11. Breakfast event attendance will reach 100+
Slam dunk. The beast was right
quote:
12. A new event will hit the scene, involving placing caches.
Actually we saw two new events. Events involving the placing of caches precede our picnics and breakfasts have been important to their success, but have gone unposted. The other event is a multi-event-event [See the Great Sub Chase – October 2004] The beast was right
