We have been keeping track of the pages we’ve completed, but have not gone out of our way to add them…..yet. This past weekend, Trekkin’ was at Grand Portage National Monument, and we found caches for him to find on his way home. I was in Minneapolis and took a little road trip to show my parents what this is all about, then when I came home, I took a different route than usual. Doing this got us 11 more pages.
Has anyone tried this approach, getting pages when you have to travel somewhere anyway? If so, about how many pages did you manage before you had to just say…time for a cache run? We figure we can get a majority of them this way, with the exception of the southeastern corner of the state. We just never have reason to be over there otherwise.
08/15/2007 at 7:01 pm #1878033Well if you look at our DeLorme page we have about the eastern third of the state done. We have gone out to find caches just to be able to knock off some of the pages. We plan on hitting more as we go to the WGA picnic and to Menomonie for a concert the night before. I wanted to travel around the state this year in an attempt to get all of the pages but the Misses shot that down. Maybe next year.

Because of that we have managed to get all of the pages between here and there without really trying. We HAVE gone out of our way while already traveling some where to pick up a couple pages and have made day treks out caching with the main goal of the trip to get more pages. We end up planning our routes based on whether we can pick up a few pages or not. Makes it more fun that way.
Still have LOTS of pages to go, but we are getting there…

We found it easier to complete sections of the state in smaller one day caching trips. For example: One of our trips we went north on Hwy 51 to Hwy 8 (North of Tomahawk) and then went West on Hwy 8. We returned home via Hwy 10 picking up caches along the way. We found 1 or 2 caches in each page. We completed 11 De Lorme pages that day. We did not find a large number of caches but our intent was to complete pages and not wipe out large chunks of caches in one area.

😳 It’s in my photo album, for a bigger view ……
08/15/2007 at 11:23 pm #1878037When completing the Delorme Challenge became an obsession, I went on weekend trips specifically with the intention of hitting pages. There towards the end, all the pages that I needed were in really out of the way parts of the state.
I originally cached all over Wisconsin before I realized that there was such a thing as the WI Delorme Challenge. So when I originally uploaded my finds, I had quite a number pages done already between Lacrosse and Milwaukee and Lacrosse and Superior.08/16/2007 at 1:00 am #1878038So Marc, does this mean you’ll be the next finisher? I don’t see us getting there anytime soon, but we can keep picking away as we travel. I have to go to Green Lake this weekend, and I see 2-3 more pages in our future!
08/16/2007 at 2:57 am #1878039No. I will have a hole up north,, and three pages along the Mississippi down south.
I’m not in a hurry.
