The next big thing??????

We’ve been at this now since 2006, many of you much longer than that. Since we’ve started, we’ve seen the wave of increasingly small micros just anywhere, power trails, evil and/or creative hides, well rounded cacher and challenges in general and now my personal (NOT!) favorite term, ‘star chasing.”

We always have and continue to just enjoy getting out and exploring new and interesting places and maybe finding boxes along the way. If we push our physical limits like a couple of teenagers, that’s fun too. We seem to gravitate toward certain areas that have a lot of caches like this….northern Wisconsin/Minnesota/Michigan U.P., Cannon River Valley as examples. Does anyone have predictions for what the “next big thing” might be? I’d love to see it go back to old school, but then there wouldn’t be that aspect of something for all. So maybe that’s not the best “next thing.”

I look forward to hearing thoughts once I return from three hours of dulcimer workshop fun. Who knows, by the time I get home, I might really feel more confident about “joining the jam.” Then I don’t have to worry about geocaching at all, I’ll hit all the local music sessions. HA!

I do not see “old school” as the next big thing. There are way too many cachers for that now compared to when caching was “young”. Not all locations have wild places nearby to put these marvelous caches, and even though we have some caches of our own placed on public lands, I would hate to see these places become power trails. Yeah, we could squeeze quite a few more hides in there, but why?

I don’t know about what the next big thing is. The genie is out of the bottle now, so until people tire of micros and power trails and numbers, or geocaching goes the way of disco, I see things continuing on the the same direction. As for us, we’ll keep on doing what we like to do, finding a few caches here and there, and they will most likely be whatever strikes our fancy on given days or trips. There are still caches out there calling our names.

If I were any good at coming up with the “next big thing”, I would have cashed in on something by now and be living on Easy Street!

I still like “old school”. Vicki and I walked the trails at Pike Lake yesterday looking for hiding spots for 5 caches for the WGA Picnic. All 5 ended up being hid by rocks or wood. One large, two regular and two small. All are fairly easy, but you will have to walk a mile and a half to get them all.

I’m too old to create the “next big thing” so I’ll just be waiting for it to happen.

Some one will throw out how many calories are burned on caches, according to topography, D/T ratings, etc. Fitness clubs will add $50 for a Geocaching Premium Membership and keep the change.

There will be more advertising allowed to generate income for Groundspeak.

Groundspeak will be listed on the Stock Exchange.

In 2018, the Government will take back their satellites, and Groundspeak stock will tank.

We’ll all sell our GPS units to antique stores and sit on the couch, wondering why we ran all over the place signing little slips of paper!

My next big thing – caching with friends…forget those mind-numbing hours of solo PNG driving, we’ll spend a couple of hours in the woods chatting and having fun and end the day with 5 electronic smilies and a handful of real, honest to goodness smiles.

Barry, We enjoy the smaller events with minimal caches to tempt us. Even when we try to sit and visit, if there are new ones out, no one is there to visit, anyway.

I’m just curious what people might be the next thing to emerge. The star chasing thing….didn’t look at the link yet….is going out to get the high ratings. Yes, we do that, but we get other things that look interesting as well.

Fretless dulcimers?????? NOOOOO! I learned how to do a really cool thing today that depends on having the frets, even though you can’t actually touch them to make it work.

I like the hippie way of thinking… it’s nicer having someone or a group of someones to join on the caching trail. It does get kinda lonely on the solo runs…
