I guess I am one of those that taks the middle ground. While I do like a good ‘numbers run’ from time to time, I also do like to find the good old ammo can in the woods that has not been muggled. I just went and added “Beverly” (GC28) to my list of smilies and had to smile that a cache this old is still around.
I do agree that caching alone is sometimes not as much fun as having someone along with you.

Fretless dulcimers?????? NOOOOO! I learned how to do a really cool thing today that depends on having the frets, even though you can’t actually touch them to make it work.
Harmonics?
Nope, but we learned a bit of that, too. This is a trick to make the strings sound like a bell. Not a big thing musically, but it sounds fun at the end of a song and most importantly….I was able to do it!
Back on topic….before we both retired, my position was part time and I had a day off every six working days. I LOVED planning out a caching trip and going it alone. Upon retirement, since Trekkin’ still had a couple months to go, I took a great road trip across Ontario and back into the US to go visit my brother on Long Island, caching my way along. It was an awesome trip and some of the caches I did, especially the one in Killarney Provincial Park, were way better alone.
I really enjoy time alone. Maybe I’m weird that way. I know I’m weird many other ways, might as well add that to the list.
One advantage that I have found of caching alone, is that the wildlife is less likely to be scared off as soon. I once had a group of sandhill cranes ‘escort’ me down the trail towards the cache. They just kept about 100′ in front of me. So Cool!!
