Sagasu reaches a high number of 1600 points in the Lonely Cache Game. Sounds like he took a pretty good fall off a Scenic Overlook, but managed to get through the rest of the day to reach that all time high tally. At one point the Old Man was a good 400 points ahead and I told him he wasn’t going down without a fight… and indeed he did! He has the bruises to show for it.

So the gap widens once again and as we come to mid-year in the first year of the game I wonder what is on store for the next six months of this crazy competition and how much more fuel he and I are going to burn to keep up this zanny pace and not let the other get to close or too far away, respectively.

It’s been a heck of a ride so far, but with the Old Man licking his wounds, I’m licking my chops and trying to figure out how to get on par with that incredible number…

Here’s to another 6 months of chansing lonely caches, Dave!

Wow, Dave is amazing. Good work S/S on trying to keep him honest and pushing him, but I think he is pushing himself even more than you are. It is great to get all of these Lonely Caches visited.

Wow! The real prize is the fact that Dave is assuring that caching in Wisconsin remains a high quality experience. Hope you’re mending quickly from that fall, too!

Thanks for the encouragement. Got to remember to share the wealth. The main contender in the game, seldom|seen, actually got me going on this in the first week of January when I caught him at a (lonely) cache one day/night? that he had already found, and I discovered a game that I had only peripherally considered up till then. Alex has made pretty much the same number of finds, adopted a few more (resourceful, there), moved as many TBs and kept me plugging away to keep a little cushion by getting out while he can, mostly at night. I’m not so keen on warding off bears in the north woods with a flashlight and have kept my night caching up in that territory more limited. Shapes up as an interesting contrast in styles as we often do trade notes on our respective experiences.

Without a doubt, a common denominator is appreciation of some great and scenic hides that are off the beaten path and have been missed or bypassed by others, especially as we have had to venture much further from home base to find them. We, and many of the others chasing the lonely caches, have appreciated these hides even more when we make a find that has sat waiting for many months for the next visitor. Makes the visit even more special.
